Death is a Sad One:  

Mrs. O.C.Gardner of Two Rivers, nee Mathilda Weber, of this city, died at her home in Two Rivers Monday, news of her demise coming as a painful shock to relatives and friends here.   Mrs. Gardner was 25 year of age and had spent most of her life in this city, having been born here.   She was married five years ago and is survived by a husband and three small children, her mother, Mrs. Andrew Weber, 735 N. Sixth Street, one brother, William and two sisters, Elizabeth and Clara.   The funeral will probably be held tomorrow.

DEATH of GEORGE:

"Racine Journal-News," Racine, Wisconsin, December 30, 1930:

 

Racine Man Killed by Bull Near Green Bay:

George Gardner, aged 21, son of Mr. and Mrs. Oral Gardner, died at Green Bay Sunday as a result of injuries received when he was gored by a bull near that city recently.  He was attacked by the bull while at work on a farm near Green Bay.

Surviving are six brothers and two sisters, all of this city.

The body has been brought to the Dahl Funeral home and will be removed to the home of his brother, Roy Gardner, at which place the funeral will be held Wednesday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock.  Burial will be in Graceland cemetery.

 

4.  Infant Boy GARDNER (Oral C.) was born 10 Mar 1910 in Two Rivers, Manitowoc Co., Wisconsin. He died 10 Mar 1910 in Two Rivers, Manitowoc Co., Wisconsin and was buried 28 Mar 1910 in Pioneers' Rest Cemetery, Two Rivers, Manitowoc Co., Wisconsin.

DEATH of ORAL, SR.:

"The Leader and Kalkaskian," Kalkaska, Michigan, April 8, 1954:

 

Heart Attack Fatal to Oral Gardner: 

Oral Claude Gardner of South Boardman passed away Saturday, April 3, 1954, of a heart attack suffered while attending the Harry Doyle Auction Sale.

Mr. Gardner was born in South Boardman on September 24, 1883, and lived there until 1912 when he moved to Racine, Wis.   He returned to Boardman with his family in 1934, and has since made his home there.

Surviving deceased are his wife, Anna, three sons, Roy and Clarence of Racine, Wis., Marlin of Flint; four daughters, Mrs. Viola Zierk and Mrs. Ida Ruthowski of Racine, Wis., Mrs. Doris Caul of Berkley, and Mrs. Orma Lewis of Grand Rapids; twenty-two grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Eunice Christopher of Traverse City; four brothers, Clarence of Traverse City, Frank of Flint, George of Billings, Montana, and John of California.

Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Eidens of Fife Lake, from the Berg Funeral Home in Kalkaska, Tuesday at 2 p.m.   Burial was made in the Boardman Township Cemetery.

Those attending the service from out-of-town were all his children, also Mr. and Mrs. Christopher and Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Gardner of Traverse City, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Gardner of Flint, Mr. William Doherty of Dearborn, and Mrs. Gladys Gardner, Oralene and Douglas of Grand Rapids and Mr. and Mrs. Al Shaw of Traverse City.

 

 

DEATH of ANNA:

Former South Boardman Resident Dies:

Anna Gardner, formerly of South Boardman, passed away Monday, May 28, 1962, at Traverse City at the age of 79.

Mrs. Gardner was born November 26, 1882, in Wisconsin to John and Anna Hansen Olsen, both of whom preceded her in death.   Her husband, Oral, also preceded her in death.   She was a charter member of the Gardner-Neihardt Legion Post of South Boardman.

Funeral services were held Thursday, May 31, 1962, at 2:00 p.m. from the Schwartz Funeral Home with the Rev. Elmer Hoats officiating.   Burial was in the South Boardman Cemetery.   Pallbearers were members of the Gardner-Neihardt Legion Post of South Boardman.

Surviving is a son, Marlen, of Bancroft; four daughters, Mrs. Viola Zieck and Mrs. Ida Rutkowski of Racine, Wisconsin; Mrs. Doris Caul of Berkley and Mrs. Orma Lewis of Grand Rapids; two step- sons, Clarence and Royce of Wisconsin; two brothers, John Olson of Racine, Wisconsin, and Peter Olson of Rochester, Minnesota; 18 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren.

DEATH of DORIS:

"The Tallahassee Democrat," Tallahassee, Florida, Tuesday, January 25, 2000:

 

Doris F. Caul, 86, of Tallahassee died Saturday.

Private services will be in Clearwater at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to Big Bend Hospice, 1723 Mahan Center Blvd, Tallahassee, FL.

A native of Racine, Wis, she had lived in Tallahassee for seven years.

 

2.  Orma Louise GARDNER (Oral C.) was born 1 Jun 1916 and died 28 Feb 1991.

 

DEATH of ORMA:

"Grand Rapids Press," Grand Rapids, Michigan, March 1, 1991:

 

Mrs. Orma L. Lewis, aged 74, went to be with her Lord and Saviour Thursday morning, February 28, 1991.

Mrs. Lewis was an employee of Lear Siegler for 29 years until her retirement in 1981.  The Service for Mrs. Lewis will be held on Saturday at 12 noon at the funeral home.

 

 

3.  Oral Claude GARDNER Jr. (Oral C.) was born 19 Aug 1918, in Mt.Pleasant, Racine Co., Wisconsin, and died 20 Nov 1944, in Zweifall, Germany.  

 

4.  Warren Harding GARDNER (Oral C.) was born 14 Jan 1921 in Caledonia, Racine Co., Wisconsin. He died 11 Aug 1941 in Grayling, Crawford Co., Michigan and was buried in Boardman Twp. Cemetery, South Boardman, Kalkaska Co., Michigan.

5.  Howard Horace GARDNER (Oral C.) was born 17 Sep 1923 in Racine, Racine Co., Wisconsin. He died 10 Aug 1941 in Grayling, Crawford Co., Michigan and was buried in Boardman Twp. Cemetery, South Boardman, Kalkaska Co., Michigan.

 

DEATHS of WARREN AND HOWARD:

"Kalkaska Leader," Kalkaska, Michigan, Thursday, August 14, 1941:

This Auto Accident Cost The Lives of Three People:

 

One of the worst automobile accidents in the history of Kalkaska county in which three young persons lost their lives, occurred east of Lodi near the Vernon Spencer home, Saturday evening about 8:30.

 

Howard Gardner, 17, of South Boardman, driver of the car, accompanied by Miss Barbara Hice, 16, Plainwell, and his brother, Warren Gardner, 21, also of South Boardman, were driving to the home of a friend who was to accompany them to a show, when the car apparently went out of control, and crashed into a tree.

 

Miss Hice was killed instantly.   Howard and Warren were rushed to Mercy hospital, Grayling, where Howard died Sunday evening and Warren died Monday evening.

 

Miss Hice, who was the guest of her sister, Mrs. Morris Harpham, of Vroom's Orchards, Crofton, was the daughter of Rev. and Mrs. Emore Hice of Plainwell.   The body was removed to the Berg Funeral Home to await the arrival of relatives, and on Monday was taken in the Berg ambulance to Plainwell where funeral services were held Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. in the Methodist Church.   Her father is a retired Methodist minister.

 

Warren Gardner was born in Racine, Wisconsin, January 17, 1921.   Howard was born in Racine, September 16, 1923.   When quite young they came with their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Orel Gardner, to South Boardman, where they have since made their home.   Warren has been employed as a truck driver for Gordon Aldrich the past two years.

 

Surviving are the parents; four sisters: Mrs. Viola Zierk and Mrs. Ida Rutkowski, of Racine, Wisc., Mrs. Orma Hotchkiss and Miss Doris Gardner, of Detroit, and four brothers, Clarence and Royce, of Racine, Wisc., and Oral and Marlin Gardner of South Boardman.

 

Joint funeral services for Warren and Howard were held at the South Boardman Methodist Church Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock.   Rev.A.R. Ellis and Rev. Tenant, officiating.   Burial was in Boardman township cemetery.   The bodies lay in state in the Methodist Church Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

 

6.  Marlen Jean GARDNER (Oral C.) was born 23 Jun 1927 in Racine, Racine Co., Wisconsin and died 6 Apr 1995 in Owosso Twp., Shiawassee Co., Michigan. Marlen married Ada E. BURNS, daughter of Clinton BURNS and Doris BOLTON, on 21 Dec 1946. Ada died 2004.

DEATH of MARLEN:

Marlen J. Gardner age 67, of Byron died Thursday, April 6, 1995, at the Memorial Healthcare Center, Owosso.

 

Mr. Gardner was a self-employed building contractor.  Previous to becoming a builder, he was a co-owner and operator of the G & G Disposal of Bancroft.

 

Services will be held 2 p.m., Sunday, April 9, at the Streeter Funeral Home, Byron.  The Rev. Robert Schoenhals will officiate with burial in Byron Cemetery, Byron.

The family will receive visitors at the funeral home this evening 6 to 9 p.m. and Saturday 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., with the family present 1 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.  A Masonic memorial service will be held Saturday evening, 8 p.m., by the Byron Lodge # 80 F. & A.M.  Memorial donations are suggested to either the Byron Area Ambulance Service or to the First United Methodist Church of Byron.

 

Mr. Gardner was born in Racine, Wis. on June 23, 1927, the son of Oral and Annie (Olson) Gardner. He had resided in the Byron area since 1955, moving to Byron from Lowell. On Dec. 21, 1946, he and (LIVING WIFE) were married in Manton, Mich.

 

Mr. Gardner served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.  He was a member of the Eugene Kimbel Post # 7806 in Manton, member of the Byron Lodge # 80 F. & A.M., a regular with the morning coffee gang in Byron and a former member of the Bancroft Lions Club.

 

Mr. Gardner was predeceased by his parents, seven brothers and one sister.
