4. Clayton D. "Buck" ELLCEY (Trula Theresa) was born on 3 Jan 1940 in Newberry, Luce Co., Michigan. He died on 29 Apr 2007.
DEATH of BUCK:
http://www.lifestorynet.com
Buck Ellcey kept a list, folded neatly into his wallet, of people he called every night, just to say hello, and let him know he was thinking of them. Buck was always thinking of others. He was a true man's man, an avid hunter, a hardworking man, but he always kept his heart right out there on his sleeve, for all to see. Buck was a devoted husband, loving father and grandfather, and a friend to so many. Buck left nothing unsaid, yet his actions said so much more.
Buck's story began on a cold winter day in Newberry, Michigan, just as the calendar turned to 1940. Those were anxious times in this country, the calm before the great storm of World War II. Yet in 1940, there was still times for celebration, especially for Clayton and Trula (Webb) Ellcey, who celebrated the birth of a baby boy on January 3, a son they named Clayton Jr. Clayton joined his three older sisters and eventually his three younger siblings in the family home, which was relocated when he was young to Grand Rapids, and later the Lawton area. His father was a farmer at first, before taking a job at Eaton's, while his mom retired from Welch's.
Growing up, Clayton, or "Buck" as he would be known, was truly all boy, and loved to hunt and fish. He was the kind of young man so full of confidence and energy he thought he could do anything, and was never afraid to try! His parents always laughed that his middle name should have been "Go!"
All that energy made it hard to concentrate on school, so after attending Lawton High School for awhile, Buck set out to find his fortune. He worked at many of the area farms for a time, picking fruit, and then took a few more odd jobs. Eventually he landed at Central Tile, where he worked as a tile setter, and learned the trade. When he had learned enough, Buck started his own tile company, called simply enough, "Buck's Tile Service." He ran the business out of Lawton for more than 25 years, through hard work and honest service, just like he did everything.
Buck's personal life soon blossomed, as well. One day he was leaving a poker game, when he spotted a beautiful young girl he'd seen around town. Her name was Janene, and she had noticed him, too, wearing his fringed, tan-leather cowboy coat. He caught up to her at her house, where he promptly asked her out, and struck up a conversation with her dad that lasted hours!
Janene was five years younger than Buck, but it was love at first sight for the both of them, and they were married on October 21, 1961, at the Baptist Church in Lawton. Buck was very nervous before the wedding, and popped Alka-Seltzers and even went pheasant hunting on the morning of their wedding! (Thus began a longstanding tradition of him hunting on their anniversary.)
The happy newlyweds settled in Lawton, and two years later, the husband and wife became father and mother, as well. They were blessed with two wonderful children..... who made Buck so happy and proud.
Buck was a wonderful father, who never missed a single sporting event for his kids, and often took them to his various jobsites with him, teaching them to help Dad lay tile! He also enlisted their aid in helping him make his fudge, peanut brittle or his world-famous chili ... he always made lots of it, too! (He also loved to eat).
Buck always kept himself very busy, and was never one to sit still very long, unless he was watching a sports event on TV (and he didn't care what it was, either). After he retired, in fact, he decided to help build Angels Crossing Golf Club, working on the grounds crew at one of the area's finest golf courses. He also enjoyed keeping his yard beautiful, detailing his cars (he was a phenomenal cleaner), or making salsa from his garden veggies. When his kids had grown, he helped them with their gardens, too. And of course, he doted on his grandchildren.
Buck was an adoring papa, who helped care for his granddaughter when she was a baby. He was thrilled to play nanny, and just like he was with his own kids, he was a very active and hands-on grandparent.
Buck also eared his nickname every chance he got, too. He had a great, deep passion for the outdoors, and especially hunting. He traveled all over the western United States hunting all manner of creatures, and also hunted in Reed City often, where his mother had a trailer. That was truly his haven, his retreat, where he went to relax and unwind. He loved all of nature's beauty, though, and enjoyed mushroom hunting almost as much as the real thing. Buck particularly loved the spring and fall, and loved to harvest things, and pick apples off the tree. When he drove anywhere, Buck also scanned the roadside for wildlife, pointing out all the animals to his passengers.
Buck had other hobbies, too, from browsing the pawn shops and yard sales, to driving his wife batty in the grocery store, endlessly comparing food prices, but his greatest passion was always for people, from his family to his many friends. Buck was an outgoing, fun-loving man, who always made friends easily.
Buck began developing health problems in 2003, when he needed open-heart surgery. Complications arose from there, and surgeries followed on his back and his right hip. Buck joked he was worth a lot of money from all the metal they put in him!
Buck was a tough man, and always bounced back from his surgeries well. But on October 6, 2006, he was diagnosed with cancer in his right kidney, and it soon spread. Sadly, Buck died on a warm spring Sunday, April 29, 2007, at his home.
Buck was a wonderful man, who lived a wonderful life, a life so full of fun, friendship and family. He kept a list of people in his wallet, people he called each night, just to hear their voice, just to say, "Hi, hon, how's your weather?" and especially, "Love ya." Buck was a man who never left things unsaid. Yet the love he shared with his family and friends always said so much more. He will be so greatly missed.
Learn more about Buck, view his Life Story film, and visit with his family and friends on Wednesday from 4-8 p.m.(spring casual attire is welcomed) at the LIFE STORY FUNERAL HOME, Betzler & Thompson, Paw Paw. A service celebrating his life will be held Thursday 11 a.m.at the Lawton EMC (spring causal attire is again welcomed). Interment Oak Grove Cemetery followed by food and fellowship back at the church hall.
Members of his family include his wife....; 2 children.....2 grandchildren.... 6 siblings..... mother-in-law.... and many nieces and nephews. Memorial donations to Hospice Care of South West Michigan or Lawton EMC.

DEATH of TRULA:
http://www.lifestorynet.com
For Trula Ellcey, family was the greatest source of happiness in her life. She was a gifted and creative woman with an ingenuity worthy of imitation. Her family and friends cherished her greatly, both for her strength of mind and her unconditional love. Trula leaves her family with many wonderful memories, but more importantly, with the unforgettable example of what a good wife, mother and grandmother can be.
Though it fell within the timeframe of World War I, 1916 was a year marked by many great events. While Albert Einstein worked on completing his theory of relativity, Charlie Chaplin was entertaining millions on the big screen as a silent movie star. It was into this heightened world of war and laughter that Frank and Minerva (Soper) Webb of Traverse City, Michigan, welcomed the birth of their first child, a daughter they named Trula Theresa. She was later joined by her brother, Virgil, who completed the Webb family.
Trula spent her growing up years in the small community of Rexton, which is located in the eastern region of the Upper Peninsula in Mackinac County. Logging was one of the main industries in the area, and Trula's parents worked as cooks in the logging camps. In addition, they also drove the county school bus and maintained the roads. From a young age, Trula learned to be very resourceful and good with her hands. She was quite crafty and could sew just about anything the family needed, like clothes or linens. Trula was also a great cook and prepared many great meals for her family. She used this valuable trait throughout her life, and happily passed it on to her children.
Like many young girls of this time, Trula attended school through the tenth grade. Shortly thereafter, she married the love of her life, Clayton Ellcey, on December 1, 1932, in Newberry. Trula was good friends with Clayton's sister, Francis, and that was how fate brought them together. After saying I do, the newlyweds moved to Muskegon, where her family lived while her father was working at Continental. Some time later, the couple moved to Paw Paw for a while before settling in Lawton. By now, Clayton was working for Eaton and Trula at Welch's, where she put in 22 years and served as the union steward.
Trula and Clayton were the proud parents of seven children..... The Ellcey home was a place of pride for Trula. Her family always came first and she would do anything for them. Trula was an excellent example to her children. She taught them good habits, strong values and how to cook. Her family, however, liked it best when she was the one cooking and baking, especially when it came to her potato salad, fresh baked bread, cinnamon rolls and pies. It was said that Trula could make something from nothing and it would be fabulous. But her skills didn't stop there, Trula liked to can goods and was an accomplished hunter, right along side her husband Clayton. When the Christmas season rolled around, she and Clayton couldn't wait to get into the holiday spirit, and man, they went all out - fudge, candy, the works. Over the years, Trula had crafted many beautiful decorations that adorned the house each year.
In her leisure time, Trula enjoyed anything that kept her hands busy. She kept a journal and liked listening to old time piano music. Trula was very much involved with the Baptist church in Lawton, where she enjoyed being a part of the community family. Trula never let a day go by that she didn't show her family how much she loved them, whether in word or in deed. Her greatest joy was sharing herself with her family, offering them the most precious thing she possessed - her time. It is a gift none of her family will ever forget.
Trula Theresa Ellcey of Lawton, MI, passed away January 29, 2007, at the Lawton Continuing Care Center. Learn more about Trula, view her life story film and visit with her family on Thursday, February 1, from 11:00 until 12 noon at the Life Story Funeral Home, Betzler & Thompson-Paw Paw, where a service to honor her life will be held at 12 noon. Interment Oak Grove Cemetery, Lawton. Food and fellowship will follow at the Paw Paw Eagles on M-40.
