Rumble Thoughts, Flair Reborn, and More... |
Before I go any further, I want to wish all my readers a very Merry Christmas and a glorious New Year. Thank you all for being dedicated readers of my column this year and I hope to entertain you even more in 2003.
In my last column, I touched on how obvious it would be for Triple H to win at Armageddon and how his “game” was an extremely easy one. Much to no one’s surprise, Triple H did win at Armageddon and his ego has been boosted even more. I actually had people email to inform me they would boycott RAW if Triple H won the world title again. Almost 100% of the feedback I received agreed with my views on that topic and I thank you all for the feedback.
The Royal Rumble is the next PPV and I’m curious to see how it shapes up. It will be nice to see Steiner in the ring again for an entire match. I highly doubt he will walk out of the Fleet Center the new World Champion, but it could happen.
I like the idea of having 15 wrestlers from Smackdown face 15 wrestlers from RAW. We can see them compete against each other for a change and it brings a nice variety to the line-up.
My pick for the 2003 Royal Rumble will have to be Brock Lesnar. He will then headline Wrestlemania for the WWE Championship and likely face Kurt Angle. I could be wrong and Angle may not even be the champion come Wrestlemania, but I really feel Lesnar will be the favorite if he is in the Rumble.
Other possibilities are Shawn Michaels, RVD, Kane, and maybe even Batista if they decide to give him a major push. I highly doubt it, but you never know.
Keep in mind, these are just predictions from my cranium. I do not claim them to be the greatest predictions, but I think any of these wrestlers could make a great headliner in the main event at Wrestlemania if they are pushed correctly.
Have many of you noticed how
Triple H is taking on the old role of the Nature Boy back in the 80’s. I must
admit that it is a nice touch from the past and I do not mind that side of
Triple H’s gimmick. It’s obvious that I’m not a big fan of “The Game”,
but I am a big fan of Ric Flair. I can remember back as a kid, I used to hate
Flair with a passion. He always won the world title and seemed to never lose it.
He walked around with a sense of arrogance about him dressed in the finest of
clothing. He kept his world title neatly tucked under his arm as he bragged to
the world.
Wait, did I just describe Triple H or Ric Flair? The answer is, I just described both men. You have read my past columns where I have disliked how Triple H continues to keep younger talent down while he basks in the glory of his wrestling status. If you think back to the peek of Flair’s career, you can remember his character being much like Triple H’s character now. J.J. Dillon would stand in the corner of the ring with a big smile on his face while Ric talked trash to his opponents and everyone in the arena. This is exactly what Ric now does with Triple H. The similarities are scary. Ric was always on top, always with the world title around his waist, and hated by fans most of the time. Flair has won many “Most Hated Wrestler” titles in his day.
As much as I could not stand Flair in the 80’s, I always respected him. It was that dominance that makes me a fan of his today and the fact that he has been in the business for so long and made such an impact. His personality was another trait that made me respect and like his character. He would get so fired up during interviews and matches that you could not help but laugh at his outwardly expressed anger.
Although Triple H lacks Flair’s flamboyant personality and ability to put over young wrestlers like Flair did with Sting, Rick Morton, Lex Luger, Ron Garvin, and many others, he does possess his dominance and dedication to the sport.
Who knows, 15 years from now, I may turn into a Triple H fan. But right now, there are things that must change.
I have been very observant of Christian lately and it is a shame he does not received a bigger push then he does. He is very funny and extremely entertaining. His in-ring skills are better than average and he could be a big star with the right mix of storylines and gimmicks. His segment with Booker T and Goldust on last weeks RAW was hysterical. Christian was a far better entertainer than Edge when they were a tag team. For some reason, WWE decided Edge deserved the bigger push.
Here are some minor cranium thoughts to think about until next week:
