Wrestling's Positive Aspects |
Negativity has seemed to
surround the wrestling Internet world as of late. All we seem to read about are
reports on how bad the writers are, how low the ratings are, or how
disappointing wrestling has become. I have even taken a stance on these issues
and whether I agree or disagree on the current state of professional wrestling,
there are certain aspects that deserve to be recognized as positive influences.
One positive aspect on the business today are the current storylines involving
Eric Bischoff and Stephanie McMahon. This feud is putting a nice twist on the
things. Fans are tuning in again to see what antics each GM will pull and who
may or may not jump ship to RAW or Smackdown. Eric Bischoff’s cocky and
arrogant demeanor mixed with Stephanie’s independent and controlling attitude
makes for very interesting promos and conniving, backstabbing storylines.
Another positive aspect to pro wrestling today is the Cruiserweights. They are
going crazy in the WWE and Smackdown has received positive opinions because of
it. It seems that fans are beginning to appreciate the Cruiserweight division
even more. The Cruiserweights are starting to receive more of a push from
writers and decent pops from wrestling fans. Now that Rey Mysterio is back in
the public eye and added to the already talented Cruiserweight division, fans
should be in store for a great deal of excitement and in ring drama.
Yet another positive addition to the world of wrestling is the emergence of new
superstars. Wrestling fans are witnessing the arrival of future wrestling
superstars to WWE. Brock Lesnar, Batista, Randy Orton, and John Cena have
arrived on the scene and will one day take the place of stars such as Triple H,
Stone Cold, The Rock, and many others when they decide to hang up the tights.
Grant it, Triple H, The Rock and many other stars in WWE have a lot years ahead
of them, but it is good to know that we have stars such as Lesnar, Batista,
Orton, and Cena waiting in the wings to entertain the fans when the current main
event wrestlers have exited the business.
Something else to look upon with confidence is the possible in ring return of
Shawn Michaels. His feud with Triple H is off and running and we may soon see
HBK in the ring once again. Many fans, including myself, believed he would never
return to the ring again, but that seems more and more likely as each week
passes. Only time will tell if it continues to play out this way.
Positive events are not only occurring in WWE, but in NWA-TNA as well. As the
NWA-TNA continues to impress fans with their “X division”, they also
continue to bring more fans to their product and give fans a form of wrestling
entertainment they have not seen in a long time. The X division is a new form of
non-stop wrestling action and matches that are full of moves some fans have
never witnessed before in the squared circle. It will be interesting to see how
this division continues to develop and we shall see what kind of steam NWA-TNA
can generate behind its product and if they can make a solid run at WWE.
The careers of Hulk Hogan and Ric Flair are beginning to come to an end. Some
fans will be very happy to see that and others will not. I constantly see other
Internet writers and hear wrestling fans talk about how they wish Hogan and
Flair would leave the wrestling world and quit holding other wrestlers down.
What people fail to realize is that these two men helped revolutionize the
wrestling business into what we see today.
Whether Hogan and Flair have overstayed their welcome or not, fans should enjoy
their last days in the ring and feel privileged they are witnessing the end of
two of the greatest wrestling careers to ever grace the business. Don’t be in
such a hurry to send these two men packing. Enjoy their entertainment while you
can because they will soon be gone forever.
Wrestling is possibly on the upswing. All of the things I have mentioned are
things to build upon. I say to all the wrestling fans in the world, remain
patient because we are going to see good things develop in the wrestling world
very soon.
