Where The Spotlight Should Shine |
Last week, I expressed my views on the absence of Stone Cold and on my dislike for The Hardy Boyz. I at least understand Matt Hardy’s gimmick a little better. I never had a chance to visit his website, but after doing so, his gimmick is a little more clear to me. It will do well if the writers decide to upgrade his version as he improves or changes his look. If they do not do this, I don’t see it working very well. As far as Jeff Hardy, an overwhelming majority of you agreed that the body paint is completely ridiculous and he needs a gimmick change.
Now, I would like to express who or where I believe the spotlight should or should not shine in professional wrestling.
I was glad to see The Dudley Boyz get back together. Finally, we have a true tag team together instead of two singles wrestlers paired together. Some wrestlers are just destined to be part of a tag team. Bubba and D-von just did not have what it took to compete as singles and stay entertaining. They are much better off together as a tag team.
I would love to see the WWE bring in more tag teams and keep them together. Stop breaking up true tag teams to give them a push in the singles race. Grant it, some tag teams are better off apart and there have been great singles wrestlers created from a tag team split. But, some wrestlers are just better off paired with another wrestler and should remain that way. Build the tag team division up. Bring in brand new tag teams who can strictly wrestle as a tag team and make the tag division truly outstanding.
This has been something I have expressed in past columns. This is something the WWE must listen to me on and other wrestling fans who agree with me.
Speaking of WWE listening to me, I believe they are getting the points I have been making in weeks past. In a recent column, I expressed my views on why I felt The Big Show deserved a big push. Now, he is the WWE Champion for the second time in his career. There are a lot of people out there who do not agree with The Big Show being the champion. Some think he is a big goof who can’t hold his own in the ring.
I beg to differ that opinion. Despite what you may think, I’m not a Big Show mark. I just believe he deserves a run with the title to see if he can hold his own. If he can’t hold his own, then have him drop the belt and we will all know he should not be on top again in the future. Let us see what kind of character Show can produce as the WWE Champion and let us see how good of a wrestler and entertainer he really is. Time will tell if he will fail or not.
Several weeks ago in a column titled “R-V-D(Rob Very Deserving)”, I expressed how I thought RVD should become the next World Champion and defeat Triple H. Of course, that did not happen and it appeared he would be pushed back down to the mid-card ranks. On the November 25th episode of RAW, I truly felt Rob was going to get his run with the belt. Instead, Triple H has to make his appearance and interfere with the match.
My respect for Triple H grew a few years back when he put over The Brooklyn Brawler. I was shocked, yet pleased to see that he did not think he was bigger than the business and was capable of putting over a nobody. Recently however, Triple H does not seem as giving as he used to be. Does Triple H constantly have to be in the spotlight? I’m not taking anything away from Triple H. He is an outstanding entertainer and knows how to be a true pro wrestler. But, he needs to step aside and put a few people over more. Quit stealing the spotlight and constantly involve yourself in the main event matches. Fans today will grow tired of you very quickly.
Fans today are not like fans
from the 80’s when they were used to seeing Flair and Hogan in every main
event match and hold world titles for years. Fans today seem to grow tired of
characters more quickly and seem to recognize the wrestlers who hog the
spotlight.
In summary, bring in TRUE tag teams and leave them that way, give The Big Show time to either fail or succeed, and dim the spotlight on Triple H a little.
