Should The Undertaker R.I.P.? |
The Undertaker has had a tremendous
career in the WWF. There are a lot of wrestling fans out there that still back
Taker 100%. There are also fans out there that can’t wait to see him leave the
world of wrestling. Should The Undertaker hang it up soon or does he deserve to
be in the main event spotlight for a few more years? That poses a great topic
for discussion.
When Taker came back to the WWF after a few months off last year, he revealed
his new “American Badass” gimmick. Some of the fans liked it, yet others did
not. It seemed to revive his career a bit and it gave him a brand new direction.
Now, I feel it has become old and stale. He should lay the biker gimmick to rest
and go back to the “deadman” character.
It appears as though his career is approaching an end soon and it would be
fitting for him to go out the same way he started off his great career in the
WWF. Should he get one more run with the WWF title? Some would say yes and
others would say no. It would be great to see Taker bring home the WWF title one
last time. Honestly, I don’t think it is important to him. Look at how many
times The Undertaker has held the title compared to guys like Stone Cold, Triple
H, and The Rock. The comparison is not even close. If he really wanted the title
bad enough, I think the WWF would have given it to him.
Taker has proven many times he has the ability to energize a crowd when he wants
to. Have we seen that from him lately? I would have to say no. The past few
months, Taker’s character is not as entertaining as it could be. He rides down
on his bike, strolls up to the ring, kicks a little butt, and then heads back to
the locker room. That starts getting old and stale after a while. The Undertaker
is capable of a lot more. It’s time we see a change. What should the WWF
writers do to pull Taker from the dead?
First of all, get rid of the biker gimmick. Give him about 2 months off to get
some rest and work on his “deadman” gimmick again. After the 2 months are
up, bring him back bigger and deadlier than ever. Bring back the gothic music,
the long black robe, the tombstone pile driver finish, the dark hair, the eye
makeup, the creepy promos, and the intimidating character that he once was.
I used to be in awe to watch Taker cut some of those creepy promos where you
could barely see his face through his hair and anytime you saw his face, his
eyes would be rolled back into his head. The eye makeup would just magnify it
that much more.
Has the Undertaker settled for putting younger guys over such as Maven? Don’t
get me wrong, I think it is very unselfish for him to drop the Hardcore title to
Maven and help elevate his status. I know that older superstars have a
responsibility to look out for the future of the business and help elevate them.
But, when you see someone like Taker dropping matches this far into his career,
you have to wonder if retirement is on the horizon.
Should Taker retire soon, or does he have a few more years left in him? This is
something that could be debated for hours. A lot of fans would say that it is
time for him to hang up his tights because he does not have it anymore. Other,
more dedicated Taker fans, would beg to differ. They will tell you that he can
run with the best of them and the ring is still ‘his yard’. One thing is for
sure, The Undertaker is one of the best sports entertainers in the history of
the business. He has been laying victims to rest for over a decade. “Rest in
peace” are the famous words from the Deadman. Is it time for him to do the
same? All things have to come to an end sooner or later. Should Taker’s career
end sooner rather than later? Let me know your take on this topic. Email me at
