What About Kane? |
Greetings Chairshot fans! I’ve got a
few more things on my mind that I would like to express with the swing of my
chair. In my last column, I expressed my opinion regarding the world title race
and those wrestlers I felt should be in that title race. There is one wrestler
out there that has yet to receive the push I feel he deserves and that would be
Kane. Some of you may disagree with that, but I have gotten many emails from
readers asking why Kane has not gotten the push he deserves. Kane is one of the
hardest working wrestlers in the business, but he continues to walk in the
shadow of the Undertaker.
During the summer of 1998, he beat Stone Cold at a PPV and became the WWF
Champion. The next night, he had to drop the title to Stone Cold on RAW. After
that night at RAW, it seems as though he as been totally engulfed by Taker’s
shadow. Since dropping the world title to Austin after one day, he has only held
two more singles titles. He held the Hardcore title for a couple of weeks in the
spring of 2001 and then had to drop it to Rhyno. He also held the IC title for a
month in the summer of 2001 and he then had to drop it to Albert. He has held
the Tag Team titles on a few occasions, but of course he has to share that with
a partner. Now I know that Kane doesn’t have the most flamboyant personality
in the WWF, but I believe we have enough of those already. We need another
“dominant” figure in the title race. I believe that it is time to give the
“Big Red Machine” his mean edge again and let him wreak havoc on the WWF.
Kane has been floating between the IC and World title ranks for way to long now.
It’s time to push him to the main event level and make his character extremely
dominant as it once was.
Another thing I would like to swing VERY hard at with my chair, is this
“WHAT?” gimmick. It is great when Austin does it, but the fans have to stop
with the ridiculous chant of “WHAT?” anytime someone is cutting a promo. It
totally takes away from the wrestlers promo and it sounds so stupid!! I know it
may be fun to chant it anytime someone pauses after a sentence, but it sounds
dumb and it really takes away from a heel’s promo. Lance Storm hit the nail on
the head with his latest commentary. It prevents a heel from receiving as much
heat and it takes the wrestler longer to do his promo because of everyone
chanting “WHAT?” every time he pauses. The “WHAT?” gimmick has gotten
TOO over and it is time to give it a rest.
I have to say that I was glad to see the Dudley Boyz lose the tag titles to Tazz
and Spike. The main reason for my happiness is because of Tazz. It’s nice to
finally be able to see a title around his waist. Even though it is not a singles
title, it’s at least a step in the right direction. Did you know this is only
the second title Tazz has held since entering the WWF? The other title was the
Hardcore title he won back in the spring of 2000, and even then he won it and
lost it on the same night. I hope the WWF continues to put gold around the waist
of Tazz and I hope it comes very soon.
One last thing I would like to take a swing at is the current storyline for
Albert. Get him away from Scotty Too Hotty!!!! In fact, I think they should give
Albert a whole new look and even a new name. Take him off of TV for about 4 or 5
months. Send him to Ohio Valley Wrestling to polish up on his skills and develop
a new gimmick for him. The man has incredible strength and he could really be a
force in the world of wrestling. He just looks really stupid coming down the
ramp with Scotty and trying to dance when he does not have an ounce of rhythm in
his body. He is too big and too powerful to be in his current gimmick.
As always, please send your feedback to Chairshots2head@yahoo.com. I know all of
you out there have your opinions about what you just read, so let me hear them!
