      What follows is a descendancy listing of a relatively small portion of a very large clan, the descendants of Anthony and Elizabeth Minter of Caroline County, Virginia, circa early 1700s.  The chart is confined to a single path, or trunkline, from Anthony and Elizabeth to Michael Eggleston and Martha Jane (Winn) Minter of Henry County, of the sixth generation of the family, after which it branches out to follow, to the extent possible, each of their nine surviving children of generation 7, then their children and their grandchildren, the members of the ninth generation.

      Documentation and some narrative accounting of the various lines are contained in a stand-alone document entitled Minter Notes, or, more correctly as Notes Pertaining to Some Descendants of Anthony Minter of Caroline County, Virginia.  The Notes can be read as a stand-alone document, but reference to the descendancy listing is recommended to help maintain clarity as to the lineages being discussed in the notes. The notes will open in a separate window.

      The original version of this descendancy chart, posted on the web in December, 2004, along with my narrative account Minters of Henry County, included some people named Minter, or variants of the name, possibly tracing back as early as 1620 in the Jamestown area. Although I attempted to make clear that documentation (known to me) was insufficient to support a case for direct lineage, it appears now that it was unwise to have included the topic at all, and that the subject is best left for now as a "work in progress," not included in this version of the descendancy listing and therefore not in the accompanying Notes.  My hope, as time permits, is to study the subject of the early Minters more carefully and eventually to post whatever seems appropriate. Several correspondents have provided informative documents and genealogical inquiries to date, and their contributions are very much appreciated.

      Naturally, no guarantees can be made regarding the accuracy of the information provided here. Despite all efforts to "get it right," it seems inevitable that errors will be found, and when they are I hope they will be made known to me, along with evidence supporting whatever alternate claims are presented. In general, I believe most of the information here is substantially correct, allowing for an errant birthdate here or there, for a spouse whose name we did not get quite right, or for children whose presence we failed to discover, in some cases because of the brevity of their lives.
