Literary Analysis Presentation & Paper

In the previous quarter, we learned a variety of literary techniques and began practicing them in our writing. As part of our study of Speak, we will be analyzing the style of Laurie Halse Anderson more closely. Our focus will be on better understanding the purposes behind each of the stylistic devices -- identifing what effect the literary techniques have on the readers.

We'll begin by getting into groups of 2-3 in class, and each group will sign up for a literary term.

As a group, you will be responsible for putting together a presentation about how your literary term is used throughout Speak. We'll have several "mini-deadlines" along the way to help you keep on top of everything:

  • Nov. 28 -- Have 3 examples (quotes) of your literary technique from Speak on your Quote Tracker Worksheet (to be checked in class by Mrs. G.)
  • Dec. 8 -- Have all 10 examples (quotes) of your literary technique from Speak on your Quote Tracker Worksheet (turn in one worksheet per group)
  • Dec. 13 -- Each member of the group should turn in one Quote Sandwich for one of your quotes (no duplication - each person should do a different quote). Mrs. G. will check these over and get them back to you in time for your presentations.
  • Dec. 18 -- Presentations begin!

The handouts from the presentations will be useful as we begin the literary analysis paper. The steps in writing this essay include:
