This clock was designed and built as an exercise to determine the difficulties of building a clock from wood, and to determine the amount of weight required to keep a hand built wooden clock running.
It was designed to be built in a small wood shop with only a few power tools. It is constructed almost entirely from baltic birch plywood and brass rod, the only exceptions being a purchased pendulum suspension spring, plastic bearings for all of the pivots, and a few screws.
It has a one second pendulum with a 1 1/2 pound bob; it is driven by six pounds of weight; it will run for 34 hours between windings; and it keeps excellent time.
It has been running since October 2003 with no visible signs of wear.
