EXTERIOR

Alloy Wheels
The standard 19-inch, aluminum-alloy wheels [1] [2] on the LS 600h L feature an exclusive seven-spoke design. With their Liquid-Graphite finish, they make a bold statement while complementing the sleek exterior of the LS 600h L. In addition, these larger wheels are fitted with low-profile tires for better handling. An 18-inch seven-spoke Teleios alloy wheel [1] [2] is also available [3]. Or you may opt for the available 18-inch aluminum alloy wheels [1] [2] with a sporty nine-spoke design [3].

[1] 18-in or 19-in tires are expected to experience greater tire wear than conventional tires. Tire life may be substantially less than 15,000 miles, depending on driving conditions. Please see your Lexus dealer for details and other information relating to tire selection.
[2] Do not change the OEM wheel size (18-in for Executive-Class Seating Package II, 19-in for all others.) Using other than the OEM wheel size could cause damage to the vehicle. If you replace the wheels, be sure they are the same size as the original wheels.
[3] Available only with the Executive-Class Seating Package II.

Automated Access
Simply place the door in a closed position and the power door closer will latch it securely. Additionally, the trunk lid can be automatically raised and lowered by pressing either the button located near the steering wheel or the one on the key fob. A button for raising the trunk lid is also concealed on the rear license plate holder, and one for lowering it can be found on the bottom edge of the trunk lid itself.

Advanced Parking Guidance System

The available Advanced Parking Guidance System is designed to help the driver parallel park the LS 600h L or back it into a space. Simply align the vehicle frame on the navigation screen, select a button, place the vehicle in reverse, remove your hands from the steering wheel and regulate the vehicle's speed by using the brake to ease into the parking spot.

Advanced Parking Guidance System

Advanced Parking Guidance System

At the touch of a button, the available Advanced Parking Guidance System has the ability to parallel park the LS Hybrid or back into a parking space (not shown) with just a little brake work by the driver. First, position the LS Hybrid parallel and in front of the parking space, then use the navigation screen to select the parallel park icon. The Advanced Parking Guidance System requires driver brake control. Always look around outside the vehicle and use mirrors to confirm clearance. Demonstration

Dynamic Radar Cruise Control

To help maintain a pre-set following distance, the available Dynamic Radar Cruise Control [1] sensor uses radar technology. Should the LS 600h L get too close to the vehicle ahead, the throttle is automatically reduced and the brakes are applied. As soon as the road ahead clears, the LS 600h L returns to its pre-set speed.

A cruise-control system that can automatically adjust vehicle speed in order to help maintain a pre-set distance between your vehicle and the vehicle traveling in front. Dynamic Radar Cruise Control uses millimeter-wave radar to help maintain this distance. Designed to assist the driver and is not a substitute for safe and attentive driving practices. Please see your Owner's Manual for important cautions and instructions. Demonstration

Exterior Lighting

Image 1 Image 2 Image 3 Image 4 Image 5 Image 6

The LS 600h L is the world's first vehicle to be equipped with Light-Emitting Diode (LED) headlamps for low-beam use. Not only are these headlamps more efficient, they last longer than conventional bulbs. Each headlamp is fitted with five LED lights, which have a subtle blue tint, giving this LS a more modern appearance. When driving through curves, the Dual-swivel Adaptive Front Lighting System (AFS) allows the headlamps to turn and illuminate the road. If turning speed exceeds 19 mph, both headlamps will swivel. At lower speeds, a single headlamp rotates up to 10 degrees for right turns, and 20 degrees when turning left. LEDs can also be found in the taillamps and center stoplight. One notable benefit of this: Since LED bulbs tend to illuminate faster than conventional bulbs, drivers behind you may have more time to react after you've stepped on the brake pedal. In addition, the outside mirrors feature puddle lamps to light your way.

LED Headlamps
Light-emitting diode (LED) headlamps illuminate faster, last longer and use less energy than conventional halogen or High-Intensity Discharge (HID) headlamps.
Dual-swivel Adaptive Front Lighting System
With the Dual-swivel Adaptive Front Lighting System either both or individual headlamps, depending on vehicle speed, rotate to help illuminate curves in the road.

Exterior Styling

Image 1 Image 2 Image 3 Image 4

The LS 600h L features unique exterior styling, most notably, the Lexus logo on the front grille, rear decklid and Hybrid badge on the lower door that features an exclusive new design. In addition, you'll find an LS 600h L badge on the rear of the vehicle. Of course, the LS 600h L also boasts a stunning exterior as well as extraordinary attention to detail, such as the subtle blue tint of the headlamps and taillamps, which gives the vehicle a more sophisticated look. Even the moldings framing the side windows are hand-polished before being chrome-plated.

Electrochromic Outside Mirrors

The outside mirrors of the LS 600h L have built-in sensors that can detect excessive light. When light levels get too high, the electrochromic technology automatically dims the mirrors' reflectivity to help reduce glare. These mirrors are also heated to dissipate condensation, and tilt down when the LS 600h L is placed in reverse, for enhanced viewing during parking. Sensors in the rearview mirror detect glare, which is then reduced automatically by adjusting the mirror's reflectivity.

Lexus LS600H Electrochromic Outside Mirrors

Intuitive Parking Assist

Six ultrasonic sensors on the front and four on the rear of the vehicle help Intuitive Parking Assist detect the distance between the LS 600h L and surrounding objects. When another vehicle or object is in close proximity, the system alerts the driver. Distance is indicated on the navigation screen, accompanied by audible beeps. As the vehicle gets closer to the object, the beeping becomes more frequent, and the distance markers on the display slowly disappear.

Climate & Comfort

Image 1 Image 2 Image 3 Image 4

The available rear climate-comfort seats mean the passengers can stay comfortable no matter what the conditions are outside. These seats feature several levels of radiant heat for cold weather and can switch to air-conditioned ventilation for warmer days. A heated steering wheel warms your hands, while the available thermostat-controlled rear-seat heaters help to keep your passengers content. Another feature, the four-zone automatic climate control with smog sensor and automatic recirculation, allows individual temperature settings for all passengers. An infrared sensor constantly monitors the rear-seat passengers' body surface temperatures to maintain the desired settings. If not, diffusers overhead can automatically cool or heat the rear zones as required. This system also includes an Air Purifier, which uses ultraviolet light to help keep the cabin free of dust, pollen and odors.
Four-zone climate control incorporates the features of front dual-zone climate control and adds two additional rear zones. The rear system allows the right and left rear passengers to select their preferred cabin temperatures. Also available with the four-zone climate control in the LS and LS Hybrid is a rear-seat infrared sensor that measures the rear-seat occupants' body-surface temperature. Please see Body Temperature-Sensing Climate Control. Smog sensor and automatic recirculation automatically switches the ventilation system to recirculate whenever a high level of outside pollutants is detected in the cabin. The system will revert back to fresh-air intake once detectable levels of dust, pollen, smoke and carbon dioxide have been reduced.

Energy Monitor

Lexus LS600H Energy Monitor Lexus LS600H Energy Monitor

The energy monitor in the LS 600h L allows the driver to observe the way the hybrid system operates. All the major components are represented, from the gasoline engine and electric-drive motor to the batteries and wheels. As the vehicle accelerates, brakes or coasts, animated arrows on the screen show which way the power is being supplied, letting the driver see just how efficiently the vehicle is running. DEMO

Gauges

Lexus LS600H Gauges Lexus LS600H Gauges

The moment the engine of the LS 600h L is engaged, the electroluminescent gauges come to life, with their glowing white needles sweeping around to come to a rest at their starting positions. To the left of the tachometer, you'll find a power meter displaying total engine and motor output for the vehicle. And at the center, a color TFT multi-information display provides a visual representation of how the gasoline engine and electric motor are currently being used. The display also includes separate odometer and trip meters, outside temperature, remaining fuel in tank and fuel consumption information. Rather than relying on ambient light during the daytime, this backlighting technology uses electroluminescent gauge panels to provide a sharp, luminous display regardless of lighting conditions. An LED readout on the instrument panel that can communicate a wide range of messages. It shows data from the drive computer, such as average vehicle speed, fuel consumption and cruising range. It can also flash many warning messages, such as low oil pressure, excessive brake wear or an unlatched door.

Luxurious Appointments

Image 1 Image 2 Image 3 Image 4

The LS 600h L interior includes such features as a buffed leather-trimmed steering wheel and Yamaha-crafted wood trim on the dashboard, door panels, steering wheel and passenger-assist grips. In addition, the rear-seat area can be fitted with an available cool box. Accessible to rear passengers, the cool box is a convenient place to store beverages while keeping them nicely chilled. The power rear sunshade raises at the touch of a button and automatically lowers when the car is placed in reverse. Side sunshades are also available, which help keep the cabin cool on sunnier days and can be raised or lowered with the touch of a button. Interior LED lights illuminate the cabin as soon as the doors are unlocked, remaining lit for 15 seconds or until the door is opened. The cabin's ceiling also features a plush headliner made from Alcantara®, a synthetic material that has the look and feel of suede, but is much more durable and easier to care for.

Luxury Seating

Image 1 Image 2 Image 3 Image 4

The power-adjustable, 16-way driver's seat in the LS 600h L features lumbar support for both the upper and lower back. The front passenger has a 12-way power-adjustable seat, including lumbar support. Available rear power seats allow passengers to recline and adjust their headrest height for maximum comfort. The seating and armrests of the LS 600h L are trimmed with superior quality semi-aniline leather. This extremely soft leather is dyed all the way through, unlike the conventional surface dyeing process. In addition, a higher grade of leather is used, since imperfections cannot be hidden. The Lexus Memory System will save settings for two different drivers and front-seat passengers. The positioning of both the driver's and front passenger's side exterior mirrors are also retained.

Mark Levinson® Surround Sound

Image 1 Image 2 Image 3 Image 4 Image 5

The Mark Levinson® Reference Surround Sound Audio System [1] features 19 custom-made speakers many with metal cones for superior sound quality strategically placed throughout the cabin. Powered by a 15-channel, 450-watt amplifier rated at less than 0.1% THD, 20-20,000 Hz [2], the system includes 7.1-channel speaker architecture, ensuring an ideal experience for even the most discerning listener.

In addition to playing a wide range of formats, the system decodes MP3 and Windows Media® Audio (WMA) files. The built-in Hard Disc Drive has a 2,000-song capacity, meaning once your CDs are downloaded, you can sort and listen to your favorite songs without requiring the original discs.

Another standard feature, an MP3/WMA port, can be found just inside the center armrest. This auxiliary jack can accept a standard stereo miniplug used by many portable audio devices, including MP3 or WMA players. Just plug in to enjoy your favorite music through the remarkable LS 600h L audio system.

This is a performance hybrid version of its new flagship sedan‚ at the 2006 New York International Auto Show. Scheduled to arrive in Spring 2007, it will be the world's first vehicle of any class or category to feature a full hybrid V8 powertrain. The LS 600h will combine an all-new five-litre V8 gas engine with combined massive, high-output electric motors and a newly designed large-capacity battery pack. It will deliver a peak, combined output of more than 430 horsepower. As a SULEV-rated (Super Low Emissions) vehicle, LS600h is estimated to produce just 20 per cent of the smog-forming emissions of a conventional five-litre V8. Power is delivered to the wheels via a 2-stange ECVT transmission. It also has the first LED front headlights of any production vehicle.

To distribute this immense power, a new full-time all-wheel-drive system is utilized for superior handling control. The LS 600h L also employs a newly developed dual-stage electronically controlled, continuously variable transmission. This combination results in impressive power and seamless acceleration.

The LS hybrid is expected to carry a Super Ultra Low Emission Vehicle (SULEV) rating. A SULEV rating means the LS 600h L has nearly 70-percent cleaner emissions than the "cleanest" of its competitors.

"It is fair to say that there is nothing on the road, or on the drawing board, that comes close to delivering such a formerly contradictory combination of jaw-dropping engine performance, fuel efficiency and clean emissions," Carter said.

Owing to the inherent noise, vibration and harshness (NVH) improvements offered by its hybrid powertrain, the LS 600h L is designed to set a new standard for silent running in the prestige-luxury sedan class. The depth and density of cabin quietness in the LS 600h L required extensive re-engineering of accessory motors and switches.

With "quiet-ride" ranking as one of the top five reasons for purchase of prestige-luxury vehicles, especially among current LS owners, the LS 600h L is well-situated in its class and poised to please the exacting luxury-car buyer. Its NVH levels are about half that found in conventional cars, making the hybrid LS one of the quietest automobiles ever built, if not the quietest.

Coinciding with the launch of the hybrid model is a newly developed, Advanced Pre-Collision System (APCS) that is like nothing ever before offered by Lexus. One element of APCS is a new system designed to help detect pedestrians in the vehicle's path.

Two small cameras mounted at the front of the car, in conjunction with millimeter-wave radar, are sensitive enough to detect not just large metal obstructions such as cars but also smaller nonmetallic objects, such as humans.

A third camera, mounted on the steering column, monitors the orientation of the driver's face. If the camera sees that the driver is not looking directly ahead for a few seconds or more, and if an obstacle is detected ahead, then it alerts the driver first with a warning chime and a flashing light. As the car gets closer to the obstacle, the system can begin to gently apply the brakes on its own. To assist the driver in maneuvering around the obstacle, the system reprograms the steering ratio, amplifying the intensity and quickness of the steering response. While all of this is happening, the system automatically cinches up the passenger restraints and prepares the brake system to respond with full force when activated by the driver in anticipation of a possible impact.

Comment by Heydn, posted on April 12 at 11:41 am

Ok ¦ not usually a fan of Lexus but the specs on this car are very impressive. Kudos to Lexus for developing a powerful and clean car. Styling? Lexus fans will enjoy, I'm sure…. *yawn* from me. They're starting to look WAY too similar to the Toyotas' I don't like it when car companies that are owned by one another start sharing their design cues. Ruins it for me. As for the LED's, again, it sounds nice. My only major problem is the rear. When you look at it, especially from the side or 3/4 angle. I'm sure I'm not the only one who automatically thinks *7 SERIES*!!!!!!!!!

Comment by Omar, posted on April 12 at 12:16 pm

I don't know about the 3/4 angle, but every time I see a picture of it from the side, i think I'm about to read an article about the 7-series until I see the text.

Oh well, the LS' styling has always been derivative - for the last 20 years, of the S-Class. Now, I guess they've decided to stage a mini-revolution by aping the 7-series. At least their benchmarks are high, and no one buys this car for the styling - they buy it for the reliability and the pampering.

Very nice. Always been a fan of Lexus. As always, the interior is beautyful.

How can you not appreciate all that this car has to offer? I'd take this over the new Merc S-Class or BMW 7-Series anyday!

Comment by Will, posted on April 12 at 3:49 pm

I especially like this LS, it gives the look it really needed. It's long, sleek, luxurios, kind of like the earlier days of luxury cars, the 1990 S-class, and 96ish 7 series-L. Now, they all look bloated and doesn't appeal as much design-wise. (even the lastes LS looks a bit bloated).

Comment by Sean, posted on April 12 at 5:35 pm

damn it, i only have so many pennies to save up….

Comment by gsh, posted on April 12 at 6:26 pm

Lemme see…. Should I pay 80,000 dollars for a car so that it can help me save gas?

If you're rich enough to pay that much for a car, I don't think saving gas is something you should worry about, instead, worry about which country club you should be a member of..

… but i have to admit, the syling is way better and appealing to a younger age group

Comment by UrAPanzie, posted on April 14 at 8:13 pm

Geez they put in a electric motor that gives more economy & say it's a hybrid.Lexus needs a AMG/M style division.

Comment by Saud, posted on April 15 at 9:41 am

I applaud the decision to go hybrid. First off hybrids are very quite. Lexus is all about that. Its all about understated luxury and doing everything without popm and splendour. Who cares about Mercedes? They break down and they have electrical faults like no one else! Lexus is being responsible. You dont need uber powerful engines; well I mean this is a 430 hp machine after all so there is plenty of power. What more do you guys want? Screw AMG.

Comment by Surya, posted on April 15 at 1:22 pm

This car has a look of its own. I see some features from the unreliable 7. But the side, front and inside has a look of its own. One of the most reliable and safe cars on the market. I have the 430 and I am sold oh ready

Comment by Dan Carey, posted on April 16 at 9:12 am

After reading all the specs on this spectacular car I am ready to trade in my '98 7 Series and get the LS 600h L. The gas milage of an AWD 6 cylinder and yet the horse power of a V12? WOW!!! 430 hp and probably somewhere north of 28 miles per gallon. Finally Lexus has gotten it right with this car and it looks pretty sleek too. Not crazy about the back end but overall it's looks like a winner to me. Better get your name on the waiting list now.

Comment by Russell, posted on April 16 at 12:23 pm

I read somewhere that 430 hp is not the final figure and in fact it was closer to 500 if that is the case WOW! Even if that is not true, it doesnt matter to me because I am in love with this car!

Comment by Surya, posted on April 16 at 5:40 pm

This car is too wonderful for words. Interiors are now the best in the world. Love the body however would prefer it if it looked more like the IS250/350 front end.I do hope Lexus doesnt get carried away with its prices and turn into Maybach? So people would have no chance to buy them.I know the quality is the best in the world however and I'm saving now!

I havent been a fan of Lexus since 2003/2004 since my father got my mom the GX.

This is one sweet car I have to say. Too bad they didnt add the massaging features too all the seats in the car.

Bentley Continental GT has the massaging feature for the driving and front passenger. BMW, Mercedes, Jaguar and Audi supposably have it for all the passengers.

One thing the interior reminds me of a Maybach.
I have a feeling with all these features the LS600h L. Will be priced around $100k-$110k region. I saw some people post $90k on other websites.

One thing I really do enjoy from this car is the 19-speaker Mark Levinson sound system, its too die for. 450-watts *drools* One competition it has is the Audi A8 (2007-model) with the 1kW Bang & Olufsen soundsystem.

One thing I wouldnt mind driving around in the regular LS460. If it still comes standard with the 19-speakers and similar features or as options i wouldnt mind at all.

I am guessting this model with the right side rear passenger with the massager and recliner is meant for executives who dont want to spend a fortune on a Maybach or can not stand BMW or Mercedes anymore.

This is the car I have been waiting for. We already own a 2006 SC430 and I will be putting my order in for this one. How can you not say WOW to all the advanced features of this vehicle. It is only sad that the Lexus dealers have not received information on the fantastic vehicle. A powerful hybrid with fuel effeciency and 4 wheel drive. It seems it can't get any better.

I have had 5 Mercs fos S line then Porsche Cayenne and now Lexus RX 400 h . I love this car, and it works. Whe´n You sit in the car it does not matter how it looks, interior must be fine and the car silent. Its like if you buy oversize tyres, they look nice, but feeling and noise? I had made that mistake many times and then changed bag. I think new Lexus is pretty enough that I can stand it, but the car is splendid. I;m on the waiting list. What the car looks is not a big issue, if you have tens of thousands similar ones on the road. If you buy a Ferrari or Lambo then you can pay attention to that and its always guestion who is looking at. But if the car perfoms and is silent then you can enjoy it. This hybrid even sound like W 8.

Comment by gbb, posted on April 9 at 12:25 pm

feul economy will be bellow 28mpg my grandpa has the current GS450h and it gets about 25-28 with a V6+hybrid motor. A V8+plus hybrid will most likly get a lower economy however it will most likely surpass that of the 7 and S class. this car is 10-15years ahead of its time with the camera that monitors the drivers eyes and cameras that monitor pedestrians and can avoid them on its own. this is the future of the automobile

Comment by m6-500attouchofabutton, posted on April 9 at 1:01 pm

ralph, good question, why does a full hybrid really need a v8, couldnt a 250hp v6 do the same. other than to just add a higher total hp rating it seems like a waste, or gimmic.

After reading motor trends Comments on the 2008 Lexus LS 600h L and I was convinced its a piece of fine machinery.
1/4 - 14 sec, for a 5,500 pound car! compared to the audi A8's and bmw 7 series, its a awesome car.

Comment by AWDturbo, posted on April 27 at 4:30 pm

This car has massive presence. But 7 series is the king.
