The Beara Peninsula (map courtesy Riobard O'Dwyer) is found in Southwest Ireland. It is located primarily in County Cork with a small part extending into County Kerry. The Beara-L list is for people whose ancestors came from Beara. Posts to the list tend to be primarily genealogical in nature but often include the history of Beara. In addition posts concerning emigrants and their stories are welcomed. Fall River, Massachusetts, the Upper Peninsula of Michigan (including neighboring Hurley, Wisconsin), and Butte, Montana are frequently mentioned. The important thing to remember is the list concerns Beara and not Ireland as a whole. If you're not sure if your ancestors came from Beara, try these links.

Three Rules For Posting

1. Cite you're sources. Why?
   • It's a good habit to get into for your own work
   • If someone else did the work they deserve the credit (citing a source does not excuse copyright infringement, however)
   • You might give someone else an idea for a new source
2. Before posting information gleaned from Riobard O'Dwyer's work ask his permission. This includes info from personal research done for you as well as from his books.
3. Be careful of copyright infringement and invasions of privacy. Before posting personal information of living people ask their permission.
