Bantry Bookstore

Michael Carroll of Bantry was born in 1939 into a fishing family whose ancestors were engaged in piracy during the seventeenth century, while others signed the American Declaration of Independence. During the 1950s and 1960s he studied and travelled widely and then became involved in both the Whiddy Oil Terminal and the shipping business. After retiring in the late 1980s he began his research and writing. Over the next ten years he published The Second Spanish Armada, Where the Deer Ran Wild, A Bay of Destiny, Wolfe Tone and the French Invasion, The Castles and Fortified Houses of West Cork, plus many leaflets on archaeology and local tourist guides. Michael Carroll lives in Bantry and runs the Bantry Bookstore.
