Our wedding ceremony took place on our villa's private beach, in the sand. It started about 4:30 and lasted approximately 20 minutes. Our wedding coordinator handled everything before we even arrived in Jamaica and did everything else on the day of the wedding, She was great! We used Tropical Weddings Jamaica.

We chose to write the entire ceremony ourselves, write our own vows, and incorporate some special readings into the ceremony. We chose all of our ceremony music together as well. We wanted to have songs special to us, as a part of our wedding and reception. We wanted to make our wedding ceremony to be as special as our love for each other.

Our ceremony music and wording is below.

WELCOME

MINISTER: Welcome, family and friends to beautiful Jamaica! Love is a miraculous gift and a wedding is a celebration of that gift. We are gathered together on this afternoon to celebrate and share in the joining of two very special people, James Patrick Cordell and Stephanie Barbara Mallory. Patrick and Stephanie want to welcome you to this celebration of their love for one another. Each of you have given something special to their lives. Your love and encouragement will forever be appreciated. Thank you for sharing one of life's happiest moments with them. May you be as important in their tomorrow as you are in their today.

READINGS

I Promise by Dorothy R. Colgan (read by Carol Cordell)
I promise to give you the best of myself and to ask of you no more than you can give. I promise to respect you as your own person and to realize that your interests, desires and needs are no less important than my own. I promise to share with you my time and my attention and to bring joy, strength and imagination to our relationship. I promise to keep myself open to you, to let you see through the window of my world into my innermost fears and feelings, secrets and dreams. I promise to grow along with you, to be willing to face changes in order to keep our relationship alive and exciting. I promise to love you in good times and bad, with all I have to give and all I feel inside in the only way I know how, completely and forever.

CONSENT

MINISTER: Patrick and Stephanie, you stand before us on this beautiful afternoon, seeking to become one with each other. You have entered into this union with open eyes and full hearts. Do you still seek to enter this ceremony to be joined in marriage?

COUPLE: We do.

ADDRESS

MINISTER: Today you are entering into life's most important relationship. This relationship centers not only around your affection for one another, but also companionship and mutual respect. A good marriage brings comfort when there is sorrow, peace when there is unrest, and laughter when there is happiness. Love makes burdens lighter because you divide them. It makes joys more intense because you share them. It makes you stronger so you can become involved with life in ways you dare not risk alone. Real love makes you stronger together than when you are apart.

A successful marriage is not something that just happens. It takes work, understanding and time. Most importantly, it takes a commitment from both of you to do whatever it takes to make your relationship thrive and not simply survive. Marriage is an amazing journey that you are about to embark upon. And it is a journey that must be made one step at a time.

You must remember that like the waters of the sea, there are smooth days and there are rough days ahead. But also remember that in each other, you will find shelter from the storms that may be encountered and strength together to carry on. Patrick and Stephanie, let this day be one of joy and laughter as you begin the rest of your lives together.

VOWS

MINISTER: Patrick, do you take Stephanie to be your loving wife? To have and to hold, to honor and adore, to laugh and to cry with, and to faithfully love her... all the days of your life?

PATRICK: I do

MINISTER: Stephanie, do you take Patrick to be your loving husband? To have and to hold, to honor and adore, to laugh and to cry with, and to faithfully love him... all the days of your life?

STEPHANIE: I do

EXCHANGE OF RINGS

MINISTER: Patrick and Stephanie, you have chosen to exchange rings as the sign and seal of the promises you are making today. The ring is an ancient symbol of such vows as the circle is considered the most perfect of all forms in nature. These rings, like the unbroken circle, symbolize your unending love and commitment to each other for as long as you both shall live.

MINISTER: Patrick, please place this ring on Stephanie's left ring finger and say to her:

With this ring, I thee wed ................... (pause and let groom recite)
and seal my promise .......................... (pause and let groom recite)
to be your faithful and loving husband ........................... (pause and let groom recite)

MINISTER: Stephanie, please place this ring on Patrick's left ring finger and say to him:

With this ring, I thee wed ................. (pause and let bride recite)
and seal my promise ....................... (pause and let bride recite)
to be your faithful and loving wife. .......................... (pause and let bride recite)

SAND CEREMONY

MINISTER:  Patrick and Stephanie, you have just sealed your relationship by the giving and receiving of rings and this covenant is a relationship pledge between two people who agree that they will commit themselves to one another throughout their lives. The most beautiful example of this partnership is the marriage relationship. You have committed here today to share the rest of your lives with each other.

Today, this union is symbolized through the pouring of these two individual containers of sand/ one, representing you, Patrick, and all that you were, all that you are, and all that you will ever be/ and the other representing you, Stephanie, and all that you were and all that you are, and all that you will ever be. I ask that you each take a bottle of sand and together you will merge that sand into one.

(PAUSE, for the pouring of the sand. Read the following passage as Patrick and Stephanie begin to pour the sand together.)

MINISTER:  As these two containers of sand are poured into the third, the separate containers of sand will no longer exist as individuals, but will be joined together as one. Just as these grains of sand can never again be separated and poured into their individual containers, so will your marriage be.  The life that each of you experienced now, individually, will hereafter be inseparably united, for the two shall become one.

PRONOUNCEMENT

MINISTER: Patrick and Stephanie, go into the world and fulfill your dreams together. Hold fast your ideals. Give to one another new experiences of joy. Challenge one another so that you both may grow. May the love that you hold for each other, now sealed in marriage, continue to grow.

And now that you have shared with each other such words of love and commitment, and we have witnessed the expression of your love as you have given each other these rings, and you have joined your hearts and hands before your family and friends, it is with great joy that I pronounce you husband and wife.

Patrick and Stephanie, you have kissed a thousand times, maybe more. But today, the feeling is new. Today, your kiss is a promise. Patrick, you may now kiss your bride. (The minister said, "Patrick, you may now kiss your WIFE" instead and we absolutely loved it!)

PRESENTATION

MINISTER: Ladies and Gentleman, it is my sincere privilege and with great pleasure that I introduce to you for the very first time as husband and wife Mr. and Mrs. Patrick Cordell!
