Choosing the perfect wedding date was very important to us. We wanted to pick a date that was already special to us in some way. We had already ruled out "relationship milestones" since they all occurred in the summer and we were set on a spring wedding. We were stuck, we had every weekend in February, March, and April marked for possible dates. We wanted it to be around a recurring available week so we'd have the option of going away that week whenever we wanted. We removed Valentine's Day, Easter, the week of the girls' birthdays, and the most popular Spring Break weeks. We still had about 8 weekends left.
We were (are) both huge Reaganites. I had read many books on President Reagan and every book by Nancy. During the week of mourning for the passing of President Reagan, Patrick was eager to hear my recounts of all kinds of stories I'd read over the years, especially about the love between Ronald and Nancy. It was a relationship so similar to the love we'd experienced so far and could only pray to have for as long as they did.
Fast forward to July, after I had moved to Minnesota... Patrick said "Why don't we get married on one of their birthdays or their anniversary?" I said "Well, his birthday is February 6th (too close to Valentine's) and her birthday is July 6th (it's summer). I can't remember their wedding date, I'll pull out the book and look, though." Later that day, I told Patrick the news - they were married on March 4th and next year, it was on a Friday! Yea!! The search for the perfect date had come to an end!!!
And while we are here on the subject, here are a few hard to find pictures of them. We thought they were pretty neat. The first is their engagement picture. The second is them cutting their cake on their wedding day, March 4, 1952.
