Week of 11/7/99:
- Sunday, November 7 - Triboro #4 and Medfield #3 met in their second straight NorthStar Youth Hockey league game. Unfortunately, the outcome was reversed with Medfield winning, 4-1. John (assisted by Matt and Jordan) opened the scoring in the first period, giving Triboro an early 1-0 lead. After that, Medfield came on strong winning most races to the puck. Andrew and Arthur kept Triboro in the game with solid goaltending but it wasn't enough as the Triboro skaters had a hard time clearing the puck out of their own end along with difficulty in keeping sustained pressure in the offensive zone.
- Saturday, November 13 - Triboro #4 played two different Franklin teams in the same day. The first in a controlled scrimmage and the second in a NorthStar Youth Hockey league game. The morning scrimmage, which took place at Veteran's Arena in Franklin, MA was a fast paced, hard hitting game with Triboro winning by a final score of 5-2. John (hat trick) and Jordan (2) scored Triboro's goals. Unfortunately, there was not an official score sheet so assists are unknown. With that said, all of the Triboro players deserved to be mentioned for their outstanding effort. Katelyn, Nicole, Graeham, Matt, George, Kevin, Seth, Arthur, Andrew, Jordan and John all played perhaps their best game of the season. Triboro will meet this team in an official National Youth Hockey league game later this season.
Later in the day, Triboro faced a higher level Franklin team and although they played as well as they had earlier in the day, Triboro suffered a tough 3-2 loss. Midway through the second period, Graeham gave Triboro a 1-0 lead after banging home a hard shot on a great pass from John. On their very next shift John would make it 2-0 Triboro, assisted by Matt and Graeham. A minute later, Franklin would get on the board with their first goal and that's when the fireworks began. The referee refused to call a blatant hit from behind (the most dangerous offense in hockey) on a Franklin player causing the Triboro coaches and parents alike to protest loudly. In retaliation to the protests, the referee preceded to call penalty after penalty against Triboro. Although Triboro played the remainder of the second period and the first two and a half minutes of the third period shorthanded (often down by two players) they still managed to keep Franklin from tying the score. Unfortunately, whether do to frustration or fatigue from killing penalties, Triboro could not hold off Franklin who would score the tying and winning goals by midway through the period. Triboro never gave up, giving it their all through the final minutes of the game. Life is not always fair, and neither are hockey games. Triboro will just have to accept their fate and keep working as hard as they have been and the breaks will eventually come their way.
