JULIA RENO WINS STATE BB-GUN CHAMPIONSHIP BY ONE POINT

COOKEVILLE TN – Julia Reno from Cookeville won the State JAYCEE BB-Gun Championship Match by one point over John Allen Tinkel from Livingston with the score of 549 to 548.  It was an exciting match to watch as each shooterÕs scores were posted.  The winner was not determined until the last shot of the tournament.  The two were tied after 100 points possible in each of test, prone, standing, sitting, kneeling and shoot off.  In the over time the first shot for each was a 7 and then on the next shot Julia had a 9 and John Allen had an 8.  Just nip and tuck all the way.  Third place went to Austin Smith from Cookeville with a 529.

The first open team went to Montgomery Bell Academy BIG RED with a score of 2007.  The team had Richard Scherrer, Dani Biegl, Luke Cianciolo and Alvin Zharng.

The Bend of the River Super ÔPossums were the first place JAYCEE sponsored team with 2115.  The team members were Blake Shepherd, Samuel Rajbundit, Austin Smith, Tyler Vaughn and John Allen Tinkel.  The second JAYCEE team went to the Great ÔPossums with 2112.  The team was Evan Martin, Julia Reno, Andrew Gothard, Rex Jarvis and Jesse York.  The third place JAYCEE team had 1188 points. The Cool ÔPossum team was Chelsey Gebbia, Joshua Tinkel, Summer Gebbia and Ronnie Reno.

The match was 5 equal parts of test on gun safety and shooting in prone, standing, sitting and sitting.

The test had a tie for first with Andrew Gothard winning over Dani Biegl at 94.  Third went to Rex Jarvis at 92,

The prone was lead by Dani Biegl with 93. Second prone went to Andrew Gothard with 92 and third prone was Samuel Rajbundit with 89.

Standing by far the easiest but thought to be the worst had Jesse York in the lead with 86.  Samuel Rajbundit came in second with 83.  And Luke Cianciolo had 82 for third.

Tyler Vaughn was first in sitting with a fine 94.  Andrew Gothard was second with 91.  The tie for third went Dani Biegl with 87 and 2 centers over Ronnie Reno with 87 and 1 center.

Kneeling had Tyler Vaughn once again in the driverÕs seat with 89 for first. Second went to Andrew Gothard at 85 and Jesse York at 84.

The Daniel Shakleford award goes to the high shooting only score. This year the award went to John Allen Tinkel with 361.  This was some mighty fine shooting.

The alternates were lead by Ronnie Reno with 389 over all score.

Members of the National team cannot win two years in a row.  Those shooters are called Champion of Champions and allowed to participate in the match but cannot go to the national match or win the state trophies.  These shooters shot against themselves and the winner this year was Eamon Morris with a 538. Only two points out in second place was his cousin Keith Morris at 536.  Third went to Anne Rajbundit with 531 and Jonathan Kelly was forth with 526.

A special thanks goes to the Dairy Queen in Livingston, JerryÕs IGA, the Livingston JAYCEES, Roger Hargis, Jim Reno, the range officer, Thurston Banks, the statistical officer and all the parents for getting the shooters to the match and assisting with the particulars of making it happen.

It was a good day for a match and all went home vowing to do better next year.
