WESLEY GOTHARD WINS PRE STATE BB-GUN MATCH

 

Cookeville, TN -Wesley Gothard from Cookeville was the big winner in the BB-gun match held recently at the Bend of the River. Gothard had a score of 555 out of a possible 600. Close in Second place was team member Jared Hof with 551. Third place from MBA in Nashville was Hunter Tidwell with 526.
It was a little cool but every one managed to over come the weather.


This was a 4-position match with test and an Olympic style shoot off. In the prone position Jonathan Kelly from Cookeville had a 96 for first place. Alex Marcus from Cookeville had a 94 to take second. Keith Morris from Pleasant Shade came in a close 93 for third, Standing held true to form and had the lowest scores. Brady Riddle from Cookeville managed an 88 for first. Jonathan Kelly came in second at 85 and Hunter Guye from MBA in Nashville took third with 84. Sitting is one of the favorite positions for many of the participants. Eamon Morris from Nahville was first sitting with 94 and 3 center shots. Jonathan Kelly was second with 94 and 2 center shots. Brady Riddle was third with a 92. Kneeling had the Morris cousins in first and third. Eamon Morris was first with 93 and Keith Morris was third at 89 and 2 center shots and then 2 more 10's. Alex Marcus had Keith tied at 89 and then tied center shots but lost with no extra 10's. Pistol Workman from Rickman was in second with 90.


Safety is a big portion of the BB-gun program. With this in mind there is test over safety and the shooting rules that has the same value as each of the positions. This year a first time shooter, Dustin Lee Bean came in first with 94. Second was a three-way tie at 92. To break the tie, each of the shooters were allowed to print from memory the Code of the Daisy BB-gun rifleman. Second went to Brady Riddle and third went to Chris Dean . Also tied was Ben Dean .


There were a group of shooters that attended the National Matches last year that were not eligible for the local and state and national matches this year. They are classed as Champion of Champions. The winner of this group was Caleb Mackie from Sparta with 551. Second CoC was Hanna Mackie with 535 and Jacob Connor from Cookeville was third with 527.


The team race was close. The MBA managed a first open team with 1595. The team was Bo Grswald, Hunter Guy, Hunter Tidwell and Jackson Crook. Bend of the River was the first Jaycee team with 1540. Livingston's first team was Anna Brown, Edward Brown, Joseph Mendenhall and Tyler Carmack with 1269. Livingston's second team had Ben Mendenhall, Jeremiah Mendenhall, Mariana Munozo and Rachel Mendenhall with a 1619. The team consisted of Steven Brown,


The hot dry spell that was upon us last year let up and it was cool and damp. Lunch was served while the stat room shuffled the scores to come up with the top eight shooters that got to shoot 10 additional shots with the totals called after each shot. This is an Olympic thing making for great audience participation. Much fun was had by all.


The Bend of the River gun safety and practice program runs on Saturdays from 9 until 11 in the morning. The Program begins in January and continues until the state championships in April, The program is open to individuals from the age of 8 to 14. Both boys and girls are encouraged to participate. Many of the current college and Olympic shooters have come from programs like this. The Jaycee B-B gun program has been in existence for 36 years. Teams from the Bend of the River have been a part of shooting for over twenty-five years. The cost of the program is only $50. Guns, BBs, and targets are provided for those in the program.


The next BB-gun match is the Tennessee State BB-Gun Championship at Livingston Academy April 26m, 2008. The Tennessee State High School 3 Position Air Rifle Championship will be at MBA on the 19th of April.
