ELIJAH ELLIS SETS STATE RECORD

COOKEVILLE, TN  - Elijah Ellis from Kingsport was the winner of the Tennessee State Three Position Smallbore Rifle match held recently at the Bend of the River.  Ellis also set a new state record with his 1177-57X.  It was a close race with second place going to Conner Yakushi from Nashville with 1157-47X.  This was not even the real close race as there was a tie for third at 1156.  Tom Byrne from Crossville came out on top with 47-X over Jason Sharbel from Nashville with 42-X.  it just does not get any better than having to use XÕs to break ties.

The prone stage of the match had Ellis in the lead with a perfect 400 and 32-X.  In second place Jason Sharbel from Nashville also had a 400 with 25X.  Third place went to Tom Byrne with 399.

Standing, which many people think is the most difficult position, had Elijah Ellis with 387 in the first slot.  Second went to Conner Yakushi with 383.  Third went to Jason Sharbel with 374.

The final position was kneeling.  First went to Tom Byrne at 391.  Elijah Ellis had 390 for second.  And Jason Sharbel managed third place with 382.

Anne Rajbundit from Nashville was the High Lady shooter with 929 and Nancy Pardue from Cookeville was High Senior.

The Bend of the River Road Kill ÔPossums team managed first place with 3152. The team was Jay Duncan from Cookeville, Tom Byrne and Joe Gebbia from Cookeville.  Chomping at the bits were the MBA Alumnae with 3141. The team had Conner Yakushi, Bob Yakushi, and Jason Sharbel.   The Left over ÔPossum team of Matt Glover from Cookeville,

Seth Leedy form Cookeville and Anne Rajbundit from Nashville came in third with 2687.

It must have been a good day to shoot since the scores were so high.  It was hot and muggy for the first relay and then it rained and turned hotter and muggier.  Anne Rajbundit managed to qualify for Distinguished Rifle shooter on Saturday the day before the match.  There were many new shooters that were shooting in their first match.  They all did well.  A special thanks goes to Dr. Thurston Banks for scoring all the targets and to Scott Miller who gave up his shooting to be the range officer.

The match is a National Rifle Association sanctioned rifle match.  The match was all slow fire with any .22 caliber rifle and any sights.  Only one contestant was using a scope.  There were 40 shots in each of prone, standing and kneeling positions.

The next match sponsored by the Bend of the River is Independence Day Pistol match on July 10th. Contact Charlie Pardue at (931) 498 - 2829 or 2880 Standing Stone State Park Hwy., Cookeville, TN 38506    or   cpardue@multipro.com     for additional information.
