FOR RELEASE: NOWELIJAH ELLIS COLLECTS TENNESSEE STATE CHAMPIONSHIP
COOKEVILLE-Elijah Ellis from Kingsport collected another notch in his belt of winnings by winning the Tennessee State Three Position Smallbore Indoor Rifle Championship this past weekend. Ellis had the score of 1130. In Second place was last year's winner Kaitlynn Lee from Philadelphia with an 1104. Sophia McDonald from Paducah, Kentucky was the match winner with 1142. McDonald could not be state champion because she resides out of state.
In the prone match, McDonald was tied for first with Ellis at 395. David Bratcher from Harrison was first in the Expert class with 390. Kaitlynn Lee was first in the Sharpshooter class with 390. The Marksman class had Tom Byrne from Crossville was first with 388 and Beth Lee from Philadelphia was second at 382.
The standing portion of the match was lead by McDonald at 369 followed by Elijah Ellis at 365 to take second. Halie Pitts form Taft was first Expert with 335. First Sharpshooter went to Kaitlynn Lee with 349. Beth Lee was first Marksman with 360. Beth Lee was first Marksman with the fine score of 360. Aliana Norris from Knoxville made 382 points to make second Marksman.
Kneeling was lead all the way by McDonald with 378. Aliana Norris was second in Kneeling with 376. Elijah Ellis was first Expert in kneeling at 370. Brian Michon from Chapmansboro was first Sharpshooter in kneeling with 367 big points. Beth Lee had a 360 to win Marksman class. It took Chad Braden from Knoxville 348 points to get second Marksman.
The Blue Dragons from Corryton won the team match with 4358. The team had Kaitlynn Lee, Beth Lee, Chad Braden, and Aliana Norris.
The approved air rifle match held few surprises. McDonald was MATCH WINNER with 581. Kaitlynn Lee was second with 576.Halie Pitts was first Expert with 562. Second Expert was taken home by Aliana Norris with 548 points. Beth Lee had 559 to take first Sharpshooter. Quintin Wotring from Kingsport had 540 to become first Marksman. Followed by CoRi Brown from Lenoir City and 522 points. Kat Acuff from Nashville managed a 492 for 3rd Marksman.
The Air team had The Blue Dragons in first with 2332 followed by the Hulme Fog Blasters at
Much fun was had by the participants. Many personal bests scores were fired. Two shooters were firing for the first time. There were three parent child teams. Sophie McDonald and her Dad Stan were first in the air match with 1084. Frank Ellis and his son Elijah were second at 864 and David Wotring and his son Quintin were third at 808.
The smallbore championship was 40 shots in each of prone, standing, and kneeling at 50 feet for a total of 120 shots with a 1200 possible score. The rifles were .22 rim fire. The air rifle match was a standing 60 shot match at 10 meters with 600 being perfect. The air rifles were .177 caliber pellet guns.
