14th annual Tennessee State High School Position Air Rifle Championship

Friday and Saturday, 9-10 April, 2010.

Dear Rifle Coach or JROTC Instructor

Your rifle team is invited to compete in the 14th annual Tennessee State High School Position Air Rifle Championship to be conducted at Montgomery Bell Academy (MBA) in Nashville on Friday and Saturday, 9-10 April, 2010. This event is sponsored and sanctioned by the Tennessee Shooting Sports Association (TNSSA) according to the following conditions:

Range: The tournament will be conducted in MBA's main gym. There will be 33 firing lanes in each of 5 relays.

Course of Fire: Position air rifle 3x20 will be fired in accordance with the 2008-2010 National Standard Three-Position Air Rifle Rules, 7th Edition, Version 2. Each position will be fired as a timed stage (20 shots prone in 30 minutes; 20 shots standing in 40 minutes; and 20 shots kneeling in 30 minutes). Shooters will be given a five-minute changeover period between stages.

Classes: Sporter and Precision air rifle. An individual may not fire in both classes.

Conduct of the Match: All entries will compete according to the 2008-2010 National Standard Three-Position Air Rifle Rules, 7th Edition, Version 2. All coaching will be in accordance with the above mentioned rule book. Six 10-bull targets (AR-5/10) will be hung at the start of each relay. Unlimited sighters may be fired in each position on target #1 only (designated in this match as the left most target in each position) until the first record shot is fired; no additional time is allowed for sighters.

Eligibility: All individual competitors must be enrolled in a Tennessee High School or an approved home school program and they must be in good academic standing with their school.

Team Match: There will be a four member "paper" team match using the scores fired in the individual competition. All members of a team must be identified on the team entry card before any member of the team fires a record shot in the individual competition.

Relay Times:

Friday, 9 April:

Relay 1 (1:30 to 4:00pm)
Relay 2 (4 to 6:30pm)
Relay 3 (6:30 to 9pm)

Saturday, 10 April:

Relay 4 (9 to 11:30am)
Relay 5 (11:30am to 2:00pm)

Awards:
A trophy plaque will be awarded to the State Champion Team and the top team in each class. A second place plaque will be awarded if there are five or more teams in a class; a third place plaque will be awarded if there are nine or more teams in a class.

Entry Fees: An entry fee of $20 for each individual competitor must be included with the completed match registration form and sent to the Match Director's address noted below; a match T-shirt is included in the entry fee. There is no additional fee for the team entry.

Squadding: Entries will be assigned to relays based on their Entry Requests and the order they are received. Firing lanes will be assigned by draw the morning of 9 April.

Directions to MBA: All major Interstate Highways intersect with I-440. From 1-440, take the West End Avenue Exit (Highway 70S) heading West away from downtown. MBA is about one mile down on the left. Just past the fire station and the light at Cherokee, turn left onto Montgomery Bell Avenue. The gym will be the second large building on your left. Drive around to the back of the gym (upper level) and enter from the doors near the football practice field.

Reporting: Coaches should report to the Squading Desk in the cafeteria to pickup squading and T-shirts for their team. Teams should arrive one hour before the start of their relay.

Safety: Safe rifle handling will be strictly enforced. All competitors will be required to have and use a clear barrel indicator (CBI). Competitors will be required to read and sign a Safety Briefing before they set up their position. It is requested that air and/or CO2 cylinders be filled at each team's home location. All rifles should be transported to the match in hard shell rifle cases. Rifle cases may not be opened behind the firing line.

Concessions: Food services will be available on site during both days of the tournament.

All State Team Honors: Participation in both the Junior Olympic 3P Air Rifle QR Matches and the State Air Rifle Championship are requirements for nomination of a shooting athlete to be selected as member of the TNSSA Tennessee All-State High School Rifle Team.
