## PITTS AND HARGIS WIN STATE AIR GUN CHAMPIONSHIPS ##

COOKEVILLE, TN - Halie Pitts from Taft was the winner of the Tennessee State Air Rifle Championship held over the Thanksgiving weekend. Pitts had a 562 out of a possible 600. Pitts has been shooting for several years and the hard work finally paid off. Elijah Ellis from Kingsport was second and first Sharpshooter with 545. David Bratcher from Harrison was second Sharpshooter at 536. Dylan Loftis from Cookeville lead the Marksmen with 515. Edward Ledbetter from Indianapolis was second Marksman only one point down at 514. Thomas Byrne returning from a long sabbatical with health problems was first in the Unclassified class with 518. Sophie McDonald from Paducah, Kentucky was match winner with 565. McDonald was not eligible for State Champion since she was from out of state. There were two parent child teams. Stan and Sophie McDonald won over Frank and Elijah Ellis 1084 to 1037.

The Air Pistol Championship went to last year's winner, David Hargis, with a 535. Hargis has won ten times in the last eleven years. Second place and first Expert went to Ernest Biles from Nashville with 515. Art Newby from Beth Page was first in the Marksman class with 498. There were three shooters that were firing for the first time in registered competition. Mark Loftis from Cookeville was the leader of the Unclassifieds with 380. All the new shooters, Mark Loftis, Marie Murray and David Townsend shot good for their first match. Edward Ledbetter was the Match winner with 550. Ledbetter had the same problem as McDonald of living out of state and not being eligible for the state championship.

The match was open to any one. The Tennessee State Shooting Association and Bend of the River sponsor this match. It was a collection of shooters from around the area. Jim Gatton from Cookeville shot his personal high of 435. A special thanks goes to Larry Stockton the range officer and Thurston Banks chief statistical officer.

The next match at the Bend of the River will be a High Power Rifle Match on December 2nd, 2007. Contact Charlie Pardue at cpardue@multipro.com, or 2880 Standing Stone Hwy., Cookeville,TN 38506 or (931) 498 - 2829.
