HUFFMAN:
THANKS, PATTY. FIRST, START WITH A PASSIONATE DISPLAY OF JAPANESE ART. AT NORMAN ROCKWELL AND A DOSE OF AMERICAN POP CULTURE AND YOU HAVE THE LATEST DISPLAY AT THE WISCONSIN GALLERY. THIS MONTH THE EVER CHANGING DISPLAY OF WISCONSIN ARTISTS IS FEATURING TOKYO BORN FUJIKO ISOMURA. HAVING GROWN UP IN JAPAN FUJIKO ISOMURA MOVED TO THE MIDWEST TO STUDY ENGLISH AND WOUND UP WITH A DEGREE IN ART. WEEKEND'S BONNIE JEAN GOT A PREVIEW OF THE DISPLAY AS THE ARTIST WAS PUTTING THE FINAL TOUCHES ON HER EXHIBIT.

ISOMURA:
THIS PIECE I CHOSE THE WIZARD OF OZ INCORPORATE WITH MY SELF IMAGE BECAUSE I WANTED TO KIND OF SUGGEST THAT MY AMERICAN EXPERIENCE THAT IT WOULD -- IT WAS FROM THE MIDWEST AND WIZARD OF OZ IS LOCATED - - THE STORY IS IN THE MIDWEST.

RANDALL BERNDT:
THE GALLERY IS THE A SHOWCASE FOR WISCONSIN ARTISTS. WE SHOW PAINTING, SCULPTURE, PHOTOGRAPHY, CERAMICS, PRINTS AS OUR SHOWS. THIS IS A PRINT SHOW.

ISOMURA:
I TOOK JAPANESE ART HISTORY CLASS. THAT BROUGHT ME BACK ABOUT MY HERITAGE AS A JAPANESE PERSON. BUT WHEN I WAS SITTING IN THE LECTURE HALL IN THE UNITED STATES LOOKING AT ALL THE JAPANESE ARTWORK I THOUGHT WAIT A MINUTE. THIS IS REALLY PRETTY. VERY BEAUTIFUL. WHY CAN'T I GET INVOLVED WITH THIS KIND OF TRADITIONAL JAPANESE ART MAKING TECHNIQUE OR SUBJECT OR WHATEVER INTO MY OWN PLACE. SO, THAT'S KIND OF HOW ALL MY RECENT STYLE OF ART STARTED TO KIND OF COMPOSING IN MY HEAD. BUT I THINK THIS IS NICE PICTURE OF NEW AND OLD, LIKE POP ART TOGETHER FROM EAST AND WEST. IF SOMETHING DIFFERENT GET TOGETHER, THEY CAN BE REALLY NICE INTERACTION AND EXPERIENCE TO EACH OTHER. BUT SOMETIMES PEOPLE DON'T LIKE THE DIFFERENT THINGS, AND IF I CAN MAKE SOMETHING HUMOROUS BRINGING DIFFERENT ELEMENTS TOGETHER I THINK IT'S EASY TO STEP IN TO EXPRESS, AND HUMOR IS KIND OF VERY NICE WAY TO INTRODUCE SOMETHING DIFFERENT. AMERICAN HISTORY ITSELF, I THINK IT'S REALLY INTERESTING TO KIND OF BRING IT UP THIS SUBJECT THAT PEOPLE HAVE DIFFERENT BACKGROUNDS AND EVERYBODY GET TOGETHER AND MIXED AND SOMETIMES IT'S HARD AND HOW WOULD I SAY, LIKE YOU MAY NOT LIKE SOME PART OF WHATEVER DIFFERENCES, BUT EVERY TIME WE CAN ALWAYS FIND SOME NICE INTERESTING HAPPINESS EACH OTHER AND I THINK I WOULD LOVE TO SHARE THAT THOUGHT THROUGH MY ARTWORK TOO.

HUFFMAN:
THE EXHIBIT WILL BE AT THE WISCONSIN ACADEMY OF ARTS AND LETTERS
UNTIL THE END OF THE MONTH.
