The match between these two struggling Eastern Conference teams as they battled for the last playoff spot finished 1:1, and so we were off to the bizarre land of the CrapShootout. During the actual soccer game, both teams subbed all three of their field players, and the Revs subbed keeper Walter Zenga for backup Jeff Causey since the latter is better at defending against this pantomime, this stain on the sport of soccer.
With the Revs leading the CrapShootout 2:0, Miami took its second shot and Jeff Causey tripped Welton in the box. Under the MLS' "make things up as you go along" rules (since no other country uses this idiotic spectacle to break ties), Causey was given a red card for the foul on Welton.
Not only did Welton get a PK on the shootout, Causey now had to leave the game, even though the actual soccer game finished drawn at 1:1. In fact, were it not for the CrapShootout, Zenga would have remained in the game until the conclusion.
So, who's the keeper you ask?
Joe-Max Moore, who else?!?!?!?!?
The result of the CrapShootout, you ask? Predictably the Fusion not only made the PK, they also made all of their remaining CrapShootouts to "win" the point.
So, what happens to Causey now? Does his red card mean he must miss next week's match against Columbus? Why should he? He was not shown a red card in an actual soccer match, he received it in the post match "extra-point kicking contest".
Come on MLS, for your own integrity and self respect as a soccer league. Put a fork in this travesty and let each team get the point they deserved and let ties be ties, we are done here!
