Welcome to our site. I am so glad you found us! With everything going digital now a days, we have developed this website to keep our club members informed and to provide information to others on the health and well-being of our beloved breed, the Chinese Shar-Pei, and the goings on of our club. So please check back periodically and find the updates in this message.

We are an American Kennel Club licensed club.  The AKC has our club's center point as San Ramon, CA, but our members are from all over Northern California. We were also the original American Shar-Pei club before the formation of the present national club, the Chinese Shar-Pei Club of America (www.cspca.com.) Our mission is to educate and help anyone with a Shar-Pei.

Our club is very active in health research for Shar-Pei. Last year, our dogs were asked to participate in three research projects - for by UC Davis, the University of Colorado, and the Genetics and Genomics Branch of NIAMS-NIH in Bethesda, MD
One of our members, Dr. Larry Downes, DVM, of All Creatures Veterinary Hospital in Dublin, CA (925) 829-6260, allows us to use his clinic for collecting the DNA blood samples that are sent to these research facilities. Dr. Downes provides all the needed supplies. The veterinary techs who work at ACVH and other club members who are vet techs, volunteer their time to help collect the samples. These are all professionals who work with Shar-Pei on a daily basis, so our pups are very well cared for and enjoy the treats they get afterwards. (click if you would like to help in future projects)

Our club actively supports our local rescue organization, California Shar-Pei Rescue. Our members help transport from shelters to CSPR and do home visits of prospective adopters. Additionally, and each year a portion of the profits from the club's Breed Specialty has been designated for donation to CSPR. Visit their website at www.californiasharpeirescue.com and to check out "Our Kids".  They are waiting in Redding, California, for their new homes.  CSPR is lovingly run by Anna and Rich Payne. They understand and know all of their kids.  They conduct a thorough interview process and have a 99% success rate with their placements. So if you are looking for a Shar-Pei to warm your bed, please give the CSPR kids a look.

Over the next year, our club has plans to host seminars covering topics such as: Pet Trusts (making arrangements for your dog(s) should you predecease them), a "Know Your Shar-Pei" a seminar covering ear, nails, and skin, Canine Good Citizen testing, and Animal First Aid, to name just a few.

We will be holding our annual Halloween Party on October 25, 2008 (see past photos). The party will be held at the Liskey's in Fremont. It starts at 1pm and the potluck lunch will be served at 2pm. So plan your best doggie costume and your most horrifying potluck dish and let us know by October 22nd if you can attend (cspcnc@yahoo.com). Please only socialized dogs should attend. When in doubt error on the side of caution and leave your four legged family member at home. But please come and join in the festivities anyways.

Our annual Breed Specialty is held at the Solano County Fairgrounds in Vallejo on third weekend of May, in conjunction with the Coyote Hills All Breed Kennel Club show weekend. Again, this year we plan on holding two Specialties on Friday, May 15, 2009- pending AKC approval. Everyone is welcome.  There is no entry fee to come and watch. At both shows we will have Sweepstakes, Junior Showmanship, and Breed judging. And we'll have a Parade of Rescues where adopted rescued Shar-Pei get out in the ring and strut their stuff. All rescued Shar-Pei are invited to participate at no charge. Please contact us, if you would like to enter your rescue Pei in the parade. We have local and visiting exhibitors from the Western states that attend our shows. It is a great opportunity for the public to meet with those in the Shar-Pei fancy. The plan is, again, for our club to host a "Meet-the-breed" at the CHKC show, on Saturday, May 16, location and time to be announced. We will have many of our club members there and some visiting dogs.  Included are pets, exhibited dogs, and adopted rescues, all very social Shar-Pei for you to meet. So if you're unable to attend our Specialties on Friday, you will still be able to see and meet Shar-Pei
For the past ten 10 years, our club has participated in the Golden Gate Kennel Club show held at the Cow Palace in Daly City. This is the only benched show in California. It is a great educational opportunity for the public as all the dogs are on display and available to greet the public from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. both days. We have also been fortunate to have been awarded an Education Table (one of only a dozen available) for the past nine years. It can be a long and tiring weekend for dogs and exhibitors, but we come back every year so that we can help and educate those interested in the breed (see photos from this years shows.) The show will be held on January 24 & 25, 2009. For show times and building location go to:  http://www.infodog.com/clubs/2009103201.HTM and click on the Judging Program. This information will be posted no later than a week before the show.

We're a small club but a club that has fun and supports our breed.
If you think you might like to join us please fill out this application.
