Notes for Annie Leota Whetsel
In 1913, Annie Leota and her mother, Nannie Catherine, were coming west, from Mt. Carmel, after a trip to the grocery store. They were walking beside the railroad tracks. Annie Leota was down on the rails, walking on the cross ties. It was in the spring, and the wind was blowing, and, evidently, Nannie and Annie Leota did not hear the whistle. The train was coming from the east, and Annie Leota was killed. Nannie Catherine was off the tracks, and was not hurt. About 3 years later, Conard, Nannie, and 3 sons, who were still at home, left Mt. Carmel, and moved to Hamblen County, Tennessee.
