Paulser Whetsel and Sarah Dove lived, for a time, in Butterfly Community, in the Bays Mountain area of Sullivan County, Tennessee, near Paulser's brother, Jesse Wetzel, and other Wetzel family members. Information about the Whetsel/Wetzel family is plentiful at the "Steadman Farmstead" at Bays Mt. History Center. Some material from this center and its researchers has been used on this web site.
Paulser's great nephew, William, "Old Bill" Whetsel, ran a mill, known as "Whetsel 's Mill." A diagram of Butterfly Community on Bays Mountain, shows log cabin homes for at least 2 Whetsel/Wetzel families during the 1800's. Land owned by Paulser Whetsel and Sarah Dove Whetsel was sold, in 1917, by their heirs, to the Kingsport Waterworks, Inc.
