| Notes for Rev. James Edward Ledbetter | |||||||||||
| The Rev. James Edward Ledbetter was the first pastor of Solomon's Temple Missionary Baptist Church, when it was founded, Oct. 5, 1889, near Bays Mountain, Tennessee. His son, William Ledbetter, also was a pastor of that church. Both James and William, and James Ervin Ledbetter, son of The Rev. William Ledbetter, served as pastors of Walker's Fork Missionary Baptist Church. Ervin Ledbetter was a seminary graduate. After Mary Elizabeth died, Malindia Jane Arnold Simpson & the Rev. James Ledbetter were married , 10 December 1882. Malindia had been married to William Simpson. William & one of his & Malindia's sons drowned in 1875. William and my husband's great grandfather were brothers. I shared information regarding this with Jane's sister, Lindaree. James and Mary lived in a log cabin on Bays Mountain. The cabin has been moved and re-assembled by a descendant at his home in Greene Co., Tennessee. The 1900 Census does not list James Edward Ledbetter or Mary E. Whetsel Ledbetter. It is not known where James and Mary are buried. A map of the Butterfly Community on Bays Mt. was used during a Ledbetter reunion, several years ago, and shows the Ledbetter cabin and 2 Whetsel/Wetzel cabins. To see this map go to: http://webpages.charter.net/cwfw/Photographs/WhetselCabinsBaysMt.jpg Information on the Ledbetter family comes from the research of Ledbetter great-grand-daughters, family records, the family Bible, the book: " Ledbetter's Revisited 2000," by Ken Haughton et al, and Sullivan County, Tennessee records, Including Deed Book, 123.
