Notes for Neal Carson Whetsel
Neal Carson was conscriped into the Army, during WWI, and was sent to Ft. Stewart, Ga. He spent about a year in training, and was scheduled to go to France. Due to the influenze epidemic of 1918, he became sick and did not ship out with his unit. Carson stayed at Ft. Stewart until the Armistice, in Nov., 1918.

Carson moved to Hamblen County, Tn., with his father and 3 brothers. He worked, for a time, at Quillen's Store, in Bulls Gap. After his marriage to Myrtle Hickam, he bought land, and became a farmer and agriculturist. He raised his family in Hamblen Co., and provided a home for his father, Conard William Whetsel, for many years, until Conard's death.
