In the Rockingham County, Virginia, 56th District, 1850 Census, Baulser (Paulser) Whetzel is listed as age 24; Sarah Whetzel, age 19; James Wetzel, 11 months; Martin Whetzel, age 70; and Catherine Whetzel, age 70. This indicates that Catherine and Martin were living with Paulser and Sarah in their older years, possibly at Bays Mt., Tennessee.
Paulser Whetsel was the son of Martin Wetzel and Catherine Shaver. One of Paulser's brothers was Jesse Wetzel, who married Mary 'Polly" Cullers, and had a large family of children. Jesse Wetzel and Paulser Wetzel are both thought to have lived on Bays Mountain, in Sullivan County, Tennessee. Their families were closely associated, in these year on the mountain. Paulser Whetsel's sister, Sarah Sally Wetzel , married Paulser Moyer. Very little is known of the remaining children of Martin Wetzel and Catherine Shaver.
