|Ruhama Shepherd was a relative of a fairly well known frontiersman, Colonel David Shepherd, a Lieutenant of Ohio County, who is known for his role in the Battle of Ft. Henry. |
Ruhama Shepherd's life as the wife of Jacob Wetzel must have been full of adventure. In 1811, the family moved to Laurel, Indiana. Soon, Jacob found another tract of land, near Waverly. He blazed a trail, through the forest, to the new location, and then came home to move his family.
Jacob Wetzel and Ruhama Shepherd had 8 children: Sabra Wetzel; Cyrus Wetzel; Maria Wetzel; Eliza Wetzel; Susan Wetzel; Sarah Elizabeth Wetzel; Jacob Hiram Wetzel; and Emily Wetzel. (Source: "The Wetzel Family," by Lewis H. Yankey, pub. 1991, Criders, Virginia.)
