Text Box: Orange Blossom Special Band

This is an album of 12 songs for those who enjoy real country music, similar to the style of the 1950s and 1960s. it is a combination of the styles of George Jones, Mel Street, Lefty Frizzell, Charlie Walker, Hank Williams, and Merle Haggard, combined. The instruments that are featured are steel guitar, piano, fiddle, lead electric guitar, lead acoustic guitar, and 5 string banjo (on two numbers).

The songs are from hits recorded by Mel Street, Ray Price, Hank Williams, Merle Haggard, and Carl Smith (Let Mother Nature Have Her Way). Two of the songs were written by band member Lee Smikrud. One of them is a tribute to Ernest Tubb, (The Texas Troubadour), and the other is a typical juke box country song from the 60s, (Next Time Around).

The instrumentals are Orange Blossom Special,  Cajun Fiddle (similar to the recording of Buck Owens band, the Buckaroos), and Down Yonder (featuring the piano and 5 string banjo).

This is an album of true country music. It features one bluegrass song, the classic Flatt and Scruggs song Blue Ridge Cabin Home. We feel that straight bluegrass is really traditional country music played in a little different style. So, we felt we should include one song on the album. Recorded at Lincoln High School Performing Arts Center, Wisconsin Rapids, WI

This is an instrumental album by the Orange Blossom Special Band featuring Vilas Dahl on some of his  favorite Gospel songs. They are all played in the traditional country and bluegrass style while keeping the form true to what you might hear in an old country church. The twelve songs on this CD are I’ll Fly Away, Wings Of A Dove, Precious Memories, In The Garden, Will The Circle Be Unbroken, Amazing Grace, I Saw The Light, Great Speckled Bird, One Day At A Time, What A Friend We Have In Jesus, Star Of Bethlehem, and Little Brown Church.

“I would like to thank, my friends and musicians for contributing their time and talents to record Country Gospel Fiddle. This recording was a result of pulling the Orange Blossom Special Band together on a Saturday in March to record some of my favorite gospel songs. I hope this recording brings as much listening pleasure for you as it does for me.”              - Vilas Dahl

The Accordion of LaVerne Smikrud 44 Years Late!” is just that. This CD is an old time collection of waltzes, polkas, and even a schottische featuring LaVerne on accordion. In fact, all instruments are played and  recorded, engineered, and mixed by LaVerne at L&K Ranch in Hixton, Wisconsin. This CD also includes three original songs: George W. Thompson Waltz, Percolator Polka, and Ardyth’s Waltz.
