Biome Webquest

Introduction

The Earth has many different environments, varying in temperature, precipitation, amount of sunlight, and many other factors. Each of these habitats has distinct organisms within them, forming complex communities of interdependence. A complex community of plants and animals in a region with a specific climate is called a biome.

Task

You are going to select and study one Biome extensively. You will then complete a paper that describes your biome, the organisms that inhabit the biome, and how we as humans survive in or use the resources in the biome. You will also create a visual project that focuses on your biome as a whole or one specific, particularly interesting aspect of your biome such as an industry, ecological problem, or food chain in your biome. This visual may not simply be a poster. It should involve much more thought and effort.

Procedure

As you already know, there are technically more than five biomes on earth. For example, in the forest biome there are rainforests, deciduous forests, and taiga to name a few. You may focus on one of these biomes and get very specific, or create a project that covers all aspects of the biome. You will write a report (minimum 2 pages in a 12 pt. font) and create a visual project as well. Your visual may be a model, a PowerPoint presentation, a board game, or any other type of project that shows more effort than just a poster. Try to be creative and show your individual strengths.
