Spring Sucker

This plant usually grows in poor soil and has developed away of gaining needed nutrients. The plant itself looks like a mass of curls, almost like a very curly head of hair. The roots of the spring sucker spread out in a very shallow circle from the plant.. These roots act as sensors and transmit signals to the plant when something is moving above them.  When triggered the mass of curls springs out and lashes at the target. At the tip of these springs are tiny barbs that sink into the skin and latch on. These curls are also hollow and if fortunate enough to draw blood will start to suck the blood out of the target.  Besides feeding on the blood of passing creatures, they also gain nutrients from the smaller creatures that are unable to get away.  Eventually these creatures die and their decaying body feeds the soil around the plant (which has set another added benefit of encouraging weeds and other plants to grow around it, providing camouflage).

COMBAT
The spring attack causes 1-2 points of damage, and then 1-2 points of temporary Constitution loss a round.  A trapped creature must either sever all the attached springs (typically needing to cause 6-12 points of damage) or succeed in a check vs strength (DC 12) to tear themselves away from the plant, if they succeed in the latter it causes a further lost of 1-6 hps.
