Vhaston-Vourbon
This family used to be one of the more powerful in the empire of Anhkvaris, but the Great War and then internal quarrels led to their downfall. For a little over 300 years Vourbon was peaceful and relatively loyal to the Overkings. Then in 747 the rightful Duc was killed by his uncle who wished to be Duc instead. The uncle was found out and was duly executed the next year, with his descendants banned from being Duc. Another branch of the family took the title and lands but they held it only for 19 years before a grandson of the executed Duc took over by force. This led to 75 years of war between the two branches, bringing nothing but misery to the common people. In 847 the Duchy seemed to be fully in the hands of the elder branch but their heavy taxation led to a popular revolution in 866 which deposed the entire Ducal line. But this was not the end of the hardship of Vourbon for forty years later the duchy was overrun by a powerful tribe of orcs who had recently been expelled from Leurens. The ruins of Vourbon have been the home of orcs ever since.
Currently there are two branches of the family that claim to be the rightful rulers of Vourbon. In 918, the younger branch's heir tried to make good on his claims and led an expedition to clear out the orcs; he and his entire force were destroyed. Though neither branch has made such an attempt since, both continually scheme to be Duc one day.
