Holy Council of Churches

History

    In the aftermath of the Great War the worship of the gods declined sharply.  A meeting was called in 775 between all the major churches in the lands once called Anhkvaris.  Although many disputes arose, one idea shared by all, was that the energies of the various churches were better spent in gaining followers than in warring amongst themselves.  To this end it was decided to form a permanent council, made up of one representative from each church and headed by an elected leader.

    This leader was to be called  the Reverend Councilor and would be elected by a majority of representatives, serving for life.  At first the powers of the Reverend Councilor were nothing more than that of an intermediary between the churches.  Over time more and more powers were added, beginning in 801 when a universal tithe was order paid by the churches for use by the Reverend Councilor.  In the same year the town of Grieuse was begun, with the Reverend Councilor as temporal ruler.

Powers of the Reverend Councilor

    The Reverend Councilor is the absolute ruler of the town of Grieuse and it's civic guard.  Master of the treasury of the Holy Council.  He is also the main arbitrator in disputes between individual churches.  If a church refuses to mediate the problem or if their actions are heinous enough the Reverend Councilor can impost censure or ouster on the offending church.

    Censure :  No member of any of the churches may in any way aid a member of the censured church.  All property of the censured church within Grieuse will be seized and held until such time as that church re-enters the fold.

    Ouster : All members of the affected church are considered outlaw, and may be harassed, killed, etc by members of the other churches with no penalty.

Regalia of the Reverend Councilor

    Robe of the Gods :  Created by the combined churches of the council, the wearer of this robe is immune to any divine magic (unless cast directly by a god), and also the power of regeneration.

    Holy Circlet :  This item grants the wearer protection as per the spell Mind Blank
