Friesgau Island

      Friesgau is a large island to the south of the continent of Shadlen.  Much of the island is covered in jungle and it has very warm tropical weather.  The land itself is rather flat with mostly gentle rolling slopes.  The exceptions to this is the very hilly region in the central northeast of the island and the fiery twins which are 2 volcanoes to the southwest.  These 2 volcanoes very active and almost continually spew forth lava, though the eruptions are relatively gentle, these also gave name to the Flaming Jungle.  Except in the southwest (where there are sea cliffs) all the coasts have beautiful white sand beaches.  In the southeast is the Sinking Swamp which is a murky mangrove forest with patches of quicksand located throughout.

     The only area on the island with civilized habitation is Akelliath, a human city-state along the north central coast.  Even clearing this small part of the island was difficult for the settlers as the island is home to beasts not found elsewhere in this area of the world, dinosaurs.  These creatures make exploring the non-civilized areas very dangerous and there are many tales of adventuring groups never being heard of again.  If they were not enough there are also large numbers of kobolds and lizardfolk native to Friesgau.

     Recently there have been reports of those two races cooperating in the eastern part of the island.  These tales began several years ago by adventurers retuning to Akelliath.  Many thought these were just all tales, but last year more reports of this activity came in, this time from prospectors exploring the hilly region east of Akelliath.  The prospectors told of seeing another group fleeing from kobolds mounted on some small fleet breed of dinosaur right into an ambush of lizardfolk armed with nets.  What happened to these captives is not known.
