Catherine was born into the powerful Mailley family of Nouvelle Vhaston, and indeed is a first cousin of the current Grand Seneschal.  It is because of her that her late husband was made Steward after the death of her father.  She is the grand-dame of the upper class society and is considered possibly the most powerful woman in the region.  The current Steward is her son-in-law.

     Sixteen years ago her only son was killed (whom she hoped one day to take over the office of Steward), and she spared no expense in tracking down the killers.  It is said she personally watched the torture of the men involved.  She was not satisfied that the killers worked alone, and woe betide the person she casts her suspicious eye on.

    Catherine has maintained her beauty, even though she is now over sixty.  Her long hair (which is now allowed to be it's natural white) is usually worn up in a beehive.  She is always seen in an elegant dress and wearing massive amounts of jewelry.
