Francois in his position as Steward manages the running of Palais Vhaston as well the court of Nouvelle Vhaston.  His wife is the daughter of the previous Steward, and it is through the workings of his mother-in-law that he himself attained the office.  Francois does not feel secure in his position as he is sure that his mother-in-law will have him replaced with her grandson when he comes of age, and also Francois is wary of the machinations of the Grand Seneschal.

    Francois adores his wife (who is very sweet and shy) but recognizes that he was only allowed to marry her because of his low background (The Mailley family tend to marry off their daughters to families with little political power).  The Heruel family have never before held political office in Nouvelle Vhaston and are only middle class farmers.  Despite his fears of the Mailley family he takes his job very seriously and is very loyal to the Seigneur.

    Though Francois is only 41 his hair is streaked with gray, and has developed a deeply furrowed (wrinkled) forehead.  He is of average height, and has remained in good shape.
