Mechanism Analysis

Motorcycle Lift

Motorcycle jacks are widely used in both industry and the personal realm. For some of the bigger bikes, such as Harleys or other big cruisers, lifts are routinely used while cleaning or for doing maintenance. These bikes can get as heavy as 780 lbs, the Larin ATVJ-2 jack is rated to at 1500lbs. The reason this lift was chosen for analysis is because Matt and Adam have dreamt about performing kinematical analysis to a Larin ATVJ-2 motorcycle lift since they were seven and nine years old, respectively.

Our group decided to break the analysis into input versus output. In class, three methods of analysis were introduced: graphical, analytical and Working Model; these three methods of analysis are used comparatively to find the kinematics of ram input to lift output.
