412th FS Awards and Decorations |
|
Most of the medals that may be earned by the members of the 412th are the same as were awarded to USAAF personnel during WWII. Because of circumstances, the criteria for receiving these awards is modified for what is achievable in the virtual world of Aces High. |
The Medal of Honor is awarded to members who are able to perform in combat throughout a TOD without being killed in action. A member must fly at least 30 combat sorties and obtain a minimum of 50 confirmed kills in either the P-51B or P-51D. In order to receive the Medal of Honor, you must have no deaths recorded in your fighter and attack stats at the end of tour. |

The Distinguished Service Cross is awarded to members who take part in Aces High Scenarios where they fly the P-51 Mustang and are able to perform in combat throughout all frames without being killed. A member must be a registered participant (walk-ons accepted only if they are in the same unit each frame) and report for duty in each frame and actively participate in the assigned mission profiles given to their unit. In order to receive the Distinguished Service Cross, you must provide the End of Scenario statistics that show your service record and K/D status. |

The Department of Defense Distinguished Service Medal is awarded to members that participate in either multi-frame scenarios or Tour of Duty (TOD) events where they fly the P-51 Mustang for at least one frame. During the event, the member must have shot down at least one enemy aircraft and landed safely at the end of the same frame. In order to receive the Army Distinguished Service Medal, the event combat records must show you to have participated in the event, been credited with at least one kill and then landed safely at the end. |

The Silver Star is awarded to members who achieve an average K/D ratio of 3.0 in fighter and attack classes for an entire TOD. To be eligible, a member must fly at least 20 combat sorties and obtain a minimum of 30 confirmed kills in either the P-51B or P-51D. If only one type of sortie is flown for that tour, the catagory with 0 sorties will not be included in the average. If both types of sorties are flown, there must be a minimum of 10 sorties in both the fighter and attack catagories. |

The Legion of Merit is awarded to members who are ranked with the most kills and highest K/D ratio at the end of each tour. Only standings for the P-51B and P-51D are eligible for this award. To receive the Legion of Merit, you must achive the #1 ranking on the squadrons internal list which is generated at the end of each tour. Ranks for this medal are based first on K/D and then on Total Kills. |

The Distinguished Flying Cross is awarded to members who are able to perform in an outstanding manner as seen by their squad mates during a combat situation. You may be recommended to receive the DFC based upon your actions as perceived by your squad mates. If you witness outstanding or extraordinary actions by your fellow squad members, you may write to the squad CO and XO to recommend that person for the DFC. The AAR will be reviewed for merit to receive the DFC. The DFC is also awarded for achieving Triple Ace status during a single hop. Triple Ace is a kill count of 15 or more. You must send a screen shot showing your kill count with a successful landing in order to be awarded the DFC for a Triple Ace. If you were flying with any other squadmates, you must include their names with the submission and specify your wingman. |

The Cross Ribbon is awarded to members who acheive 85.0% of their total fighter kills for the tour in a P-51B or P-51D. At the end of each MA tour, each member's pilot statistics are gathered. The total amount of kills achieved in either a P-51B or P-51D are added and used to determine percentage based on total kills from the fighter and attack catagories. |

The Airman's Ribbon is awarded to members who are able to consistently maintain formation flight both to and from an engagement zone, and work with their wingman in a professional manner during all flight operations. |

|
The Bronze Star Medal is awarded to members who achieve 2 or more captures of enemy installations (airfields or depots) in any TOD where they were an active member of the 412th. To receive the Bronze Star Medal, a member must have at least 2 base captures shown in their end of tour statistics. All troop carrying vehicle types are eligiable. |

|
The Purple Heart is awarded to members who are able to land their aircraft after having been wounded while fighting in aerial combat. To receive the Purple Heart, the pilot must take a screen shot showing his aircraft on the runway of a friendly airfield with the damage status displayed showing his pilot wounded indication. |

|
The Meritorious Service Medal is awarded to members who distinguish themselves by outstanding meritorious achievement or service to the benefit of the squad without prior assignment or direction. Members who show themselves to take a higher interest in the squad and it functions by involving themselves in activities that will help improve the squad and its functions will be considered for being awarded the Meritorious Service Medal. |

Meritorious Service Air Force is awarded to members who have participated during an organized squad night event where the selected objective is acomplished. |
|
|
|
The Air Medal is awarded to all members of a flight (at least 4 aircraft) that land together after combat. To be eligable, a screen shot must be taken showing the text buffer with all members of the flight showing as landed successfully in a P-51 with at least 2 kills each. Each end of flight message MUST show on the same screen shot, indicating that all members of the flight landed together and ended flight together. This is a teamwork oriented award and encourages the use of good wingman tactics and flight leadership. All submissions that are accompanied by films and written AARs will be posted in the squadron archives. |

The Aerial Achievement Ribbon is awarded to both members of an element who are members of the same flight that land together after combat. To be eligable, a screen shot must be taken showing the text buffer with both members of the flight showing as landed successfully in a P-51 with at least 2 kills each. The end of flight messages must be on consecutive lines of the text buffer, indicating that the pilots landed together and ended flight together. This is a teamwork oriented award and encourages the use of good wingman tactics and flight leadership skills. All submissions that are accompanied by films and written AARs will be posted in the squadron archives. |

The Army Commendation Medal is awarded to members who achieve an Ace status within a single mission. Ace status is from 10 to 14 kills. See the DFC for more than 14 kills To receive the ARCOM medal, take a screen shot of the message showing the kill count with a succssful landing and send the image the squad CO for verification. If you are flying with other squad members during your mission, please list them and also specify who your wingman was. As we are a teamwork-oriented squad, it is important that all participants are recognized for their efforts. *** The first 5 Ace Awards earned by any member shall be issued at 5 kills in a single mission. All susequent awards will require the minimum of 10 kills as listed. Members are allowed ONE Ace Award while flying in an A/C other than the P-51*** |

The Commendation Ribbon is issued to the top ranked member of the squadron for each TOD in the MA. One ribbon is awarded for each of Fighter and Attack ranks |

|
The Army Achievement Medal is awarded to members who complete non-combat, voluntary assignments as available on the Assignments page or by successfully introducing and integrating a new member into the squad. To receive the AAM, you must complete whatever assignment you have accepted. You may also receive this award if you are responsible for introducing a new recruit to the squad who then later becomes a member. |

The Achievement Ribbon is issued to all members who complete the basic squadron membership information. (See the squadron CO information for an example) |
|
|
|
Organization Excellence is awarded to members who are able to fly flight lead during 412th FS combat missions and maintain his flight in an orderly fashion, including wingman assignments, flight navigation, formation flight and combat coordination. This includes being aware of the total flight / combat situation and using good judgement to keep the flight in an advantageous position at al times. |

Prisoner of War |

|
The Combat Readiness Ribbon is awarded to members who obtain at least a 1.5 K/D ratio in BOTH fighter and attack categories during a single TOD. The K/D ratio requirement will be increased by 0.5 for each time the member is awarded this ribbon. |
|
|
|
The Good Conduct Ribbon is awarded to members, who after one year of service in the 412th, have shown themselves to be even tempered and professional at all times. The member must have had no complaints made about them to squadron officers by other members of the AH community, including other squad mates. |
|
|
|
Outstanding Airman of the Year is awarded to a member of the 412th seen to have given the most contributions to the squadron throughout the year. At year-end, a ballad will be issued to all members to submit a vote for whom they feel most deserves this award. |
|
|
|
The Recognition Ribbon is awarded to members who are recognized for their dedication to the squadron and excellent teamwork spirit. The recievers of this ribbon are those that give 100% effort to the squad and thier squadmates. Any member may nominate any other member for this ribbon by notifiying the squadron CO and explaining why they think the member in question should be awarded the ribbon of recognition. |

World War II Victory (1941 - 1945) is awarded to members who participate in at least three frames of a multi-frame scenario where they flew in the P-51 and the outcome of the scenario is deemed to be an Allied victory. |

Short Service Overseas is awarded to members who participate in a snapshot event, as a fill-in / walk-on in a multi-frame scenario or TOD, where they flew in the P-51. |

|
Long Service Overseas is awarded to members who participate in at least three frames of a multi-frame scenario or TOD where they flew in the P-51 for at least two frames. |
|
|
|
The Longevity Service Award Ribbon is awarded to members who maintain their membership to the 412th in good standing for one year. |

PMR Graduate (NCO) |
|
|
|
The Honor Graduate (BMT) Ribbon is awarded to members who complete written exams as provided in the Wingman Training and P-51 Pilot School pages of the 412th FS. In order to receive this award, a member must use the blank test form issued for each exam and fill in all the answers. The completed form must then be sent to the squadron CO for grading. A score of 100% is required to receive the ribbon. |

Marksman Award is awarded to members who achieve a hit ratio of 10.0% or better as shown in the Aces High pilot score pages. |

|
The Training ribbon is awarded to members who develop, or help to work on various training regiments for the squadron. |

The Skill Champion Award is awarded to members who achieve the best scores in squadron skill competitions. Skill competitions are special events and can be organized by any member of the squadron with approval of the squadron CO. The Skill Champion Award is also awarded to members who achieve all squadron training endorsement ribbons. This award has been invented for 412th use. |

Outstanding Unit Award is awarded to ALL current members of the squadron if the EOT stats show the squad with an overall Fighter or Attack K/D of at least 1.5. After the first award, the minimum K/D will be increased by 0.25 (in both categories) and for each time there after. This is a teamwork oriented award. It requires that all squadron members work together to perform as a team at all times. |

Presidential Unit Citation is awarded to ALL current members of the squadron if the EOT stats show the squad with an overall Fighter and Attack K/D of at least 1.5 in both catagories. After the first award, the minimum K/D will be increased by 0.5 and for each time there after. This truly is a Teamwork oriented award. It may be difficult to achieve this one, but with the right training, communications and teamwork, we can make it happen. |
