This is a relatively new hobby of mine, picked up from metalcasting. Reason being, to melt bronze and iron, you need highly refractory crucibles and furnaces to withstand the heat, as well as great strength (in the crucible at least) to support the melt. It also must withstand repeated rapid heating and cooling, something that I've learned isn't easy to come by in ceramic materials!
