Welcome to my home page! I hope you will enjoy this brief tour of my interests in Sociology and various other interests. This page is under constant construction. Please come back often and see the improvements in progress. I HOPE YOU ENJOY
In January 1996, I began my graduate work at the University of Oklahoma . I was formally accepted into the Sociology program in the spring of 1997. Concentrating my interests in Criminology and Stratification (specifically: inequality), I received my MA in Sociology in May of 1999. My master's thesis was entitled "GED and Vo-Tech: Does Rehabilitative Justice Decrease Recidivism for the Women of the Oklahoma Department of Corrections?"
In August 1999, I began my doctoral work at the University of Oklahoma. I am still concentrating in the areas of Criminology and Stratification. I have taught several courses at the University of Oklahoma and the University of Central Oklahoma. I hope to continue my work in the area of prison conditions. I continued my work in the field of correctional programming through my dissertation. It was entitled "Legal and Extra-legal Variables in Sentencing Outcomes: the Effect of Race and Gender." The study examined sentencing outcomes for males and females of minority groups as well as whites.

In August 2002, I began my teaching career at Auburn University, located in Auburn, Alabama. I hope to continue my work in both the area of incarceration, but also expanding my research into the courts and further investigation of sentencing outcomes and the factors involved in the process. I am currently working on an article that will add judges' and district attorney's attitudes to the sentencing outcomes from my dissertation.

Along with my work on prison, I have also been involved with the Oklahoma Department of Corrections as a volunteer for the past four years. While attending SWOSU, I (along with David E. Wright and Dr. Philip Holley) was the outside sponsor of the Lifer Club. This club consisted of inmates serving long sentences (more than 35 years) and these inmates were in charge of the "Speak Out" program at the Oklahoma State Reformatory . I also was the co-sponsor of the "Inside-Out" program along with Dr. Holley. The program is conducted at the Lexington Reception and Assessment Center in Lexington, Oklahoma. Here Dr. Holley and I work with inmates on current news topics and correctional issues. Using a sociological approach, we keep the inmates focused on how the "free" world views these issues. I hope to soon be working with the Alabama Department of Corrections in the same manner as I have with Oklahoma.
I am a current member of the American Sociological Association , Southwest Sociological Association, American Society of Criminology , Alpha Kappa Delta, Oklahoma Sociological Association, and the Oklahoma Criminal Justice Research Consortium.
My personal interests are spending time with my wife of 30 years, Debbie.
Without her unending support, my studies and adventures would not be
possible. I enjoy spending time with my son, his wife, and the
most adorable grandson in the universe. I would also like you to meet
the newest edition to the family, she is three days old here.
