Doug Bristol is a candidate for the Doctor of Arts degree in Theory and Composition from the University of Northern Colorado where he taught jazz arranging from 1994-96. He earned a bachelor's degree in studio music and jazz at the University of Tennessee and was a graduate teaching assistant in jazz arranging at the University of North Texas. His arrangement of Escape Velocity appears on the 1986 One O'Clock Lab Band album Live in Australia. He completed a master's degree in trombone performance at Georgia State University in 1988. In 1995 he composed "North Rim" which was recorded on the CD, Alive XV, by the University of Northern Colorado's Jazz Lab Band One. He is published by UNC Jazz Press, International Trombone Association Manuscript Press, and TAP Music.

Mr. Bristol teaches music theory, sightsinging/ear training, jazz improvisation, low brass, composition, band arranging, and music technology at Alabama State University and is a past vice-president of the Alabama Jazz and Blues Federation.
