The CEO The CEO of the DD&DM Railroad is Gil Brauch. He is a retired senior citizen residing in Hickory, NC. Gil has been involved in N Scale modeling since he discovered it in the early 1970's at a Lionel Leisure City store in Doraville, GA (a suburb of Atlanta). He first observed NTRAK in action at the 1982 NMRA Convention in Washington, DC. Modeling while on active duty with the US Army is not an easy thing, but he did manage to nearly complete a 4x10 foot tabletop layout during the 1980's. He moved the layout with him when stationed in Germany and disposed of it overseas. When he returned to the States in the early 1990's, he 'discovered' the group of NTRAK modelers in the Washington, DC area that eventually became Northern Virginia NTRAK (NVNTRAK). As a charter member of NVNTRAK, he was able to participate in many outstanding layout setups ranging in size from typical 14x26 ovals for small, one-day shows to the monster layouts in the 1996 RuNNiN' TraiNs '96 N Scale East Convention in Alexandria, VA and the 2004 National N Scale Convention in Chantilly, VA. Gil also served on the Board of Directors of NVNTRAK and was the editor of their monthly newsletter "The CallBoard" for many years. When he relocated to NASCAR Country (Hickory, NC), Gil became more active in his role as an Operation Lifesaver Presenter and the Carolina Southern Division of the NMRA, since the nearest NTRAK organizations were in Raleigh and Hendersonville. In the summer of 2005, a small group of N Scalers in the Central Carolina area wanted to start an NTRAK club, and Gil joined in with that fledgling group. He continues to maintain his Honorary Life Membership in NVNTRAK, charter membership in the Central Carolina N Scalers, and associate membership in the French Broad eNgineers and North Raleigh NTRAK. He is also the Webmaster for the Carolina Southern Division of the NMRA. In addition to these activities, Gil is working on his NMRA Achievement program awards and so far has earned the Golden Spike Award, Model Railroad Author, Master Builder - Scenery, Association Volunteer, Model Railroad Engineer - Electrical, and Chief Dispatcher certificates. |
