November homework up until this week consisted mainly of working on individual book projects.

                        MON., OCT. 27 – THURS. OCT. 30  Homework for all blocks:

                                                                                    Revise/edit your folktale rough draft.

                                                                                    Conference with me at least once either in-class,

or at help session in the library, M/Tue/Wed.

Create a cover (and B/C author’s page)

Please check all assignment instructions and

models given in assignment printout.

Print your final copy.  It is due Thursday,

Oct. 30, by the end of the day.

 

(I will be available for conferencing for your

folk tale final copy in the library, after school,

on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday of this week)

                       

MON.,OCT. 20 – FRI., OCT. 24         Homework for all blocks:

Work on the rough draft of your folk tale.

Pay special attention to creating a conflict

and having your protagonist solve the problem.

Use dialogue according to the mini-lessons

presented in class.

Your subject matter should be appropriate

for all to read since the final copies will be

on view at Latino Night.

                       

Wednesday, Oct, 15                    Finish the reading for your second folk tale

                                                                                    Complete the front page of the worksheet.

                                                                                    Answer all questions completely.

 

Tuesday, Oct, 14                           We begin our Latino unit!

                                                                                    Complete reading of the printed out Folk Tale,

                                                                                    “From Such a Stick Comes Such a Splinter”

                                                                                    Fill in the worksheet.  You may need to

 look up definitions for conflict and point

 of view on your reading and lit. terms

                        Friday, Oct. 10                               Continue to read your first quarter reading book.

                                                                                    If you are not finished reading it, you should be

close to finishing it by the end of the long weekend.

first quarter fiction reading book.

                                                                                    Remember that tomorrow is a full block of library orientation.

Wednesday, Sept. 10                         I passed back homework: 5 - Excellent; 4.5 - Very Good; 4 - Good; 3.5 - Fair.

Today in class we read about strategies for active reading and we chose

 stereograms for our WN covers!  Stereograms symbolize looking deeper

 into your reading to make meaning.

                                                            Homework:

                                                            -  complete Active Reading Strategies worksheet

 

Tuesday, Sept. 9                                 Homework: 

-          use direction sheet to complete  labeling the cover of your

     Writer’s Notebook

-          use direction sheet to write WN Rules inside the cover of your WN

-          do entry  - WN #1 - on the topic Seventh Grade, My First Impressions

There are no wrong answers just write as much as you can

about your thoughts on this topic.  Work to fill at least one

side of a page.

 

 

Monday, Sept. 8                                  Today we will continue and hopefully complete the final copy of the

District Writing Assessment.

Bring your English binder and your Writer’s Notebook to class each day.

If you were absent for either of the summer reading tests, discussion,

or the District Writing Assessment come to tomorrow’s help session

to make them up.

Homework:

                                                            - label your binder cover and tabs

                                                                cover – full name, English C311, and your block

                                                                 tabs   -  Homework,  Literature,  Writing,  Vocabulary,  Grammar

- skim Literary and Reading Terms pages

- fill in Literary Terms worksheet

 

Friday, Sept. 5                                     Today you will have time to continue and complete the draft for your

writing assessment.

                                                            As you finish, you may use class dictionaries to edit.  Then begin to

write your final copy.

                                                            This writing should reflect your best work.

                                                            No weekend homework.  Do bring all of your supplies and a

reading book to class nest week.  Be ready for a five day week!

 

Thursday, Sept. 4                               Today we begin the district-wide Fall Writing Assessment. I will show

you the content rubric.  You will have a chance to brainstorm and then

write your rough draft.

                                                            Bring your supplies and a reading book to class tomorrow.           

 

 

Wednesday, Sept. 3                           Tangerine book discussions take place during class today.

                                                            No homework

 

Tuesday, Sept. 2                                 Summer reading testing in class today for all blocks.

Homework - fill in a note card with information about what your

chosen class cornerstone word means to you.

                                                            Honesty, respect, responsibility, courtesy – why are they

important in the classroom?

                                                                                   

We will have book discussions on Tangerine in class tomorrow. 

You may bring your copy of the novel and any notes you may have taken.
