The premise of this is to give a little background info about the bartender of the cyber-tavern, so here's the my life's story, condensed of course. I was born in Lawrence, Ks., and eventually ended up in Wisconsin, where I spent my juvenile delinquent years. After high school, Uncle Sam had plans for me, like many young men of my generation at that time. Instead of waiting for my draft notice, I enlisted in the military for 4 years, thinking it was my best chance to stay away from the fun and games going on in S.E. Asia. Wrong. After finishing my 1st tour, I returned to the states, got married and was promptly ordered back,(2 weeks after the wedding...talk about a p.o.'d bride),to once again to save the world from communism. I stayed there until my military service was finished and I could become a civilian. We moved to Colorado, started a family, and after a few years, moved back to Wisconsin. The second son was born shortly afterwards and a house was bought in a real small, (Clyman - pop.304), rural village. Fast forward to 'the accident', when my Harley and I parted company quite suddenly one night, leaving me with a broken neck. With that American tradition, divorce, thrown in for good measure a couple of years preceding it, a new chapter of my life started. The first couple years as a gimp brought forth the usual questions of "is this what life is gonna be like from now on?", cuz it really sucked. As time went on, things became easier. My youngest son, a teenager at the time, moved in with me. The joy of being a single parent in a 'chair raising a teenage son is a book waiting to be written. It's been over 20 years as a gimp and getting by is pretty much routine, doing the day to day activities like drinking coffee, cleaning, laundry, cooking (I'm a great cook), drinking coffee, vacuuming, wasting time on the 'puter, drinking coffee, etc., take up a good part of each day. I keep involved in disability issues at local and state levels, along with some public speaking about the joys of spinal cord injury. Throw in taking a road or rail trip whenever possible, I've gotten back to living a 'normal' life by most standards. I've become involved in local politics of Fox Lake, where I've lived for the last 10 years, having served as an alderman on the city council and a member of the library board. I'm a also a grandpa now, with 3 grandsons, who are the joy of my life. About 7 years ago, a wonderful woman came into my life. During the summer of 2010, while enjoying a baseball game, Jodi popped the question. We decided that the wedding should be a party, so it was decided to have it on a Green Bay Packers' game day with football being the theme. The Packers defeated the Vikings and we had a terrific party. This self-portrait could go on, but I'm sure your getting anxious to surf elsewhere, so I'll end it here. |
