Custom Tweet Pods

These go into a late 90's Gran Prix. A friend of a friend owns this car, and wanted something a little more
than a surface mounted tweeter over the stock tweeter in his car, for his new Alpine Components. So I molded these tweeter pods
onto the stock triangular piece right where the stock tweets are. I made them a little more noticeable, yet subtle. By
angling them a little, I was able to get a little better sound from them too, by aiming them towards
the occupants of the car, instead of the center of the dash like the stock tweets.

1.
I started off with the stock triangular pieces, cut out the stock tweets, then superglued
the Alpine Tweeter mounts in their place

2.
For the first layer of body filler I used some fiberglass reinforced filler to give it a little strength, and
help hold those new tweeter mounts in place. I smushed it in good around the seams.  I then sanded
it down with some 50grit to get ready for the Rage Gold body filler. (my ONLY choice of fillers...)

3.
Only 2 coats of Rage Gold, sanded the first layer with some 50grit to shape it. Then the 2nd layer
with some 80grit, and some 120grit to finish it off.

4.
Some good filler/primer covered up all my 120grit sanding marks. A few thick coats of this stuff,
and let it dry overnight. Come back and sand off any runs with some 400 grit and it's ready to paint.

5.
Painted with a semi-gloss black to match the rest of the interior, but with a bit more shine.
We did NOT want a gloss finish, yet we wanted them to get noticed a little more than with a flat black finish.

And there you have it. tweeter pods finished in about 4hrs of total work!
( minus letting the primer dry overnight )

This can be adapted to just about ANY car with a similar panel over the top corner
of the door, near the a-pillar.  DSMs are another popular one for this custom tweeter pod!
