Custom Gauge Pod
Dodge Avenger or 2nd Gen DSM
Here's what he had to start with, 2 vents and some filler
plugs for buttons not used on his car.
What he wanted was only 1 vent, one custom molded gauge pod, and NO dummy
buttons!
Starting off by super glueing the plugs in place so they were solid
Next, I filled in the vent i was deleting with some 1/8" black PVC plastic.
Again, superglue into place for good measure.
Next, cut a hole for the gauge to fit through.
Attach angle-mounted trim ring with... yep... you guessed it... SUPERGLUE!
Lay on the first layer of Rage Gold body filler.
Sand first layer of filler
2nd layer of filler
Sanded and primered with a good filler/primer
Wetsanded the primer with 220grit, then prime again, wet sand with 400grit. Reprime where needed.
Painted gloss black.
All ready to Install. Snap the vent back in, mount buttons, and you're set!
The finish looks a little hazy from this angle, but rest assured, in the car... it's darn-near flawless!
perfectly angled gauge facing towards the driver, and no more dummy buttons!
Not to mention, it slid right back into place perfectly like it was meant to be!
Total project cost: $5 for angled trim ring, the rest were FREE leftover parts from other project.
Total project time: Est 3-4hours, start to finish (minus dry time between primer coats and paint)
