Body Filler

I applied the first few layers of body filler quite liberally so I could do fewer layers.  Typically I try to never have the filler more than 1/8" to 1/4" thick. This piece is much less structural and will see very little abuse, so if need be it can be a little on the thicker side. But if it was going on a door that would be opened and slammed closed quite a bit, the thinner the filler the better.

You can sand down the first layers of filler with the 50grit paper to really eat through it and give you the desired shape your looking for.

Once I had it all smoothed out, I moved up to the 80grit to really make sure everything was the proper shape and smooth

The high build primer I use will cover up the sanding marks from the 80grit sandpaper with no problem. However, if you are using a spray can primer, you will need to go to at least the 120grit, maybe even 220grit to cover up the sanding marks.

I placed the speaker into the opening, and using a dremel or RotoZip, I cut out the plastic that needed to be gone in order for the speaker to fit properly in the opening.

Finished and ready to prime

Priming & Painting

Misc. Pics of the "ready to be primed" pieces

Very symmetrical, and almost perfectly identical

They are now ready to be primed, then covered. I originally thought of painting them, but have since decided to wrap them in vinyl.
